I was amazed when I learned the fact that there are more high school football players in the Houston area than there are in the entire state of Louisiana. With this gold mine of talent less than 100 miles from the Louisiana border, I think LSU should be a major player there in recruiting along with Texas, Oklahoma, and A&M. Instead we seem to be satisfied with just trying to cherry pick a player here and there. LSU is very popular in the Houston area. I think it would be wise for the Tigers to play Rice or Houston in Reliant Stadium about once every 4 or 5 years. This would keep us fresh in the minds of the high school stars that are trying to decide on where they want to play. The money we lose by sacrificing a home game would more than make up for itself in recruiting dividends. Plus the fact that we would be alloted as many tickets as we could sell would make it much like a home game. Can you imagine the impression on a young star in Houston to see the "Tiger Nation" in all of it's pagentry and enthusiasm right there in his home town. I am anxious to hear other people's thoughts on this line of thinking.
I agree, we used to play Rice & A&M every year. Occasionally we played Houston. Good road trip from Baton Rouge
I've said it many, many times that I'm all for revisiting our rivalry with A&M--make it the first game of the season for both schools. More so than not, I honestly think it will be one of the most attractive games for the opening week of the season year-in and year-out. Playing Houston, as mentioned, every 4-5 years is also a pretty good idea. Anyone know how to convey this information to Skip????
Skip's outlook I'm afraid that Skip is mainly concerned with the bottom line ($$$$). Anyone know how to convey this information to Skip????[/QUOTE]
The good thing about Saban is that he is able to fence in(for the most part) the talent we have here in Louisiana. As most of us already know, Louisiana is one of the top five states when it comes to football talent. We live in a football talent rich state. Saban can get most of what he needs here within the state and only needs to venture out for a few players here and there. We aren't like states such as Oklahoma and Arkansas that need to rely on out of state talent for the survival of their program. Programs like these rely heavily on recruiting of other states. We are truly lucky to have the talent we have down here in bayou country. I think Saban knows the importance of concentrating his efforts on the talent here in Louisiana so that others don't rob them. He knows that other programs drool over the talent we have here. If he were to concentrate too heavily on out of state recruits, he would be getting robbed of Louisiana recruits. So while we should try to get recruits from areas such as Houston, I'm fully content with what Saban is able to do with our local talent. To be a dominant program year in and year out we need to be able to get our share of the top talent out of Houston. Your right about Louisiana having some of the top talent in the nation, but it's not enough.
