1. I don't follow recruiting all that much, but is LSU the only school in the SEC that hasn't secured one recruit in the month of January? Powe doesn't count since he no showed for his officieal visit. 8 recruits is very bad. Heres hoping the 2nd is a lot better than it looks today.
  2. I've made a couple of posts the last few weeks reguarding that same question/perception.

True. LSU only has but 8 commitments thus far as Miles' lone commitment since being named head coach, Powe, seems to be "Lost in Space" and might not hold up (which would have made 9).

But that's not to fault Miles. Miles had but only 3 weeks to recruit for LSU. When he came in, he had to hit the ground running. Not only to recruit, but to put forth a staff--both tramendous time-consuming tasks, and he's done admirable job.

At the very least, Miles has gotten players that had not previously shown interest in LSU, to come in and at last take a visit. I view it as extremely hard to convience a recruit, who previously hadn't had any major interest, to come in and sway him enough, in just 3 short weeks, to commit to LSU.

A lot of recruits that HAD been interested in LSU from the start were scared away when it was first mentioned that Saban might leave. And when that became ever more clear that he would, a lot of these recruits that were "on the fence", and caught between LSU and someone else, ended up falling in another program's lap and by the time Miles was introduced and able to pick up the recruiting trail again, for most of the recruits, it might have been a little too late. If Miles was ever going to land recruits to LSU, or steal some away from another program, the earliest we would know would be where we stand now--finding out on signing day.

Also, keep in mind that LSU only had but 20 scholarships to work with for this class anyway and 4 of them have been awarded to "greyshirts" (players that transferred to LSU and have to sit out 1 season due to NCAA rules). We have 2 "greyshirts", DL Chase Pittman (transferred from Texas) and CB Sammy Josephy (transferred from Colorado) that will be awarded scholarships, and Trindan Holliday (who I believe was academically ineligible previously--though someone may want to clarify that for me) is now cleared to play, and so he will be receiving a scholarship from this year's alotment. Current Tiger, Zimmerman, who's a deep snapper, was never on a scholarship, but Miles has rewarded his service with a scholly beginning this season. So that leaves us with 16 scholarships to award to high school/JUCO recruits.

Hope some of this helps make you feel better.
