I was not looking forward to listening to that clown call the LSU – Mississippi State game. It would have been interesting to see how many fans would have fallen for his transparent hypocrisy, but we get the team of Doug Flutie, Craig James, and Chris Fowler instead. ABC, ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU Game Assignments Sorry, I’m just a college football junkie. I always enjoy looking at the new lineups. Ron Franklin will no longer be on ESPN2 at night, he is slated for ABC 2:30 regional games. I’m really sorry to see him go. On a related note, Big Ten games on ABC at 2:30 will no longer be on ESPN GamePlan. They will be shown for free on ESPN or ESPN2. That means if a game is already scheduled for ESPN or ESPN2, in some areas of the country it will only be shown on GamePlan so the Big Ten can be shown for free. No word yet on what will happen with ABC primetime regional games, but this is worth watching. The value of the ESPN contract for other conferences including the SEC may be undercut. An example from last year that may server as a model for what is likely going to happen: Notre Dame at Michigan State was split between ABC and ESPN2. USC at Arizona was split between ABC and GamePlan. Boston College at NC State was split between ESPN2 and GamePlan. Out of market ACC fans expecting to see Boston College at NC State for free on ESPN2 got hosed, so ABC regional coverage of Notre Dame at Michigan State would be available nationwide.
Fair point. What I said about Herbstreit was obviously my opinion. Last year for a Bowl game that Herbstreit was doing, I took the trouble to synchronize my TIVO with an online audio broadcast with different announcers. I hate listening to the guy that much. So for me, I would much rather hear Flutie. Opinion aside, the broadcast team announcements are worth a look…
He might be a big 10 homer, but he's a good announcer. He's very knowledgable about the college game.
Never picked up the big 10 homer thing but such things elude me sometimes. He does have an affinity for Texas, rightly so I guess. I think he lives around here somewhere.
im giving herbie a free pass on last year. first off, he's much more football smart than the scripts he read last year. I think now he's learned his lesson but unfortunately he's all over the sec's jock too much and is overdoing it after the OSU beatdown. secondly, he's better than the feathered-hair one from bc and company by a longshot. i have no problem with reduced appearances though. he was extended a bit too much and it seemed forced at best. i guess my dream of franklin to cbs is not coming to fruition as I hoped.
Thank God they kept Holtz for the ESPN and ESPN2 midweek games- what would college football be without him spitting at the tv monitor and slurring his words.
