But Elliott, a redshirt freshman who had been Lester Ricard's backup, will make his first start Saturday at Rice. Ricard has struggled to find his rhythm this season, so Elliott will try to spark an offense ranked 10th in Conference USA.

Don't have anything bad to say about Lester, but many here and mainly in the press were talking before the season started about how the best LSU QB got away. Tulane lost to Rice, BTW.

    The grass is always greener...

A lot of LSU fans were salivating over Urban Meyer as well.

With rumors flying around about Tulane dropping athletics (due to the hurricane), wonder were some of those players, if the rumor turns up to be true, would end up?

I mean, I know it's Tulame and all, but they've bound to have a few players on that team that could contribute for another team.

*I'm not lobbying for any of this to come true, or to insist that they have players better than what we do at certain positions. I just want to know if anyone else heard that rumor*

Tulane: SEC school "lower than dirt"

Here is what I saw a few days ago about Tulane:
    http://www.fanblogs.com/tulane/006098.php

Tulane football coach Chris Scelfo has contacted "the proper people" concerning tampering allegations against an undisclosed SEC school. Reports from Tulane say that an SEC assistnat coach has contacted several Tulane players about transferring from the Green Wave football team.
Tulane has brought incidents to the NCAA's attention in the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, but reports say that the latest incidents by the SEC coach are more recent.
Scelfo was quoted as saying: "In the worst natural disaster in the history of the United States, you've got to stoop pretty low to do that. You're lower than dirt. "I have reported them to the proper people," he continued. "I'm not going to tolerate that. There's people in our business that don't belong in our business."

You gotta feel for Tulane on this one. Yes, Tulane has looked at dropping football in the past and yes, Tulane is in a money crunch right now, but the university remains on the record that they intend to field a football team in the future. To start plundering players from a program that is essentially trying to pull themselves up out of the financial intensive care unit is pretty despicable.
As to who the SEC team is, it's impossible to say. Because of the proximity of the two schools, you might suspect LSU, but if the Tigers had wanted the Tulane players in the first place, you also have to think they could have signed them originally. A more logical assumption would be one of the SEC up & comers looking to upgrade depth, like a Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Arkansas, or Vandy. But again, that's just pure supposition.

I would hope it's not us. After all, not the same extent as the Green Wave, but we were in a similar boat reguarding the destruction....

I doubt it was LSU, or any of the top tier SEC teams. I would be looking at programs in dire straits who could use these players right now. I won't guess as to which program it might be, I would not want to slander an innocent school by mistake. Whoever it is, though, should be hit with severe penalties.

Ouch. I think you missed the point of my post. I don't recall any "hits".

Is Tulane even holding classes? How do you field a team under these circumstances? (Note to bleeding hearts: Get a grip. Besides, I am neither limber enough nor sufficiently endowed to pleasure myself in that way. That would be pretty cool, though :hihi: )

Now, picking through the graveyard of Tulane football looking for scraps is indeed pretty low, and my shame will know no end if it's LSU.

It is strange today, the Tulane women's BBall team is housed at Texas Tech right now, and TTU is hosting the LSU Lady Tigers this afternoon. I bet our one Cajun cookery in Lubbock is bustling today!

Maybe playing Devil's Advocate, but ultimately the priority should be the kids' best interests. And if Tulane is not able to offer a suitable location to learn and play football, maybe it's not so bad that another school would open their doors to them?
