Let's face the facts: 1) You have to play a bowl game after your coach announces he's taking the money and running. 2) A hurricane wipes out your major metropolis; you cancel your first game, then change your home game versus a top twenty team to a road game... and still win. 3) Your second game of the season... when some teams are on their 4th game... against a major rival... is once again "altered" and you play on a Monday night. Wow. No team has ever been through what your young men now face. Trust me, if you were Notre Dame (or Southern Cal coming out of an earthquake) they'd be selling movie rights! But you're not, so there will be no movie... so just go kick some ass.
Never a truer statement than that. Thank the Lord that ND is not in South Louisiana or I would have to vomit hearing them spew 24 hours about ND. I am Catholic but I cannot stand that University. Their arrogance is above no other except maybe USC and Pete Carroll.
One game moved and two games resheduled to start the season, and oh, by-the-way two Class IV hurricanes devastating Louisiana (900 dead and counting). If LSU can win this game and salvage this season it will be something remarkable. They will talk about it for years.
Great post, I agree 100%. We have a tough row to hoe, but ya just gotta keep going. Regardless of what happens Mon. night, as someone else pointed out, our weeks routine is thrown off for the next game. As I said before we played ASU, the coaches are more important than usual at this point. They are the leaders of the team, and it is the focus on the mission they create, and the calm and even keel. They have to get the team motivated to play and focus. We'll learn a lot about Les & Co. the next two weeks, as well as a lot about our players. I just want to see them focus and play hard. I've learned to live with losses, as long as we competed hard, like we did in the Cap One Bowl. Thanks for your insightfulness!
Very nice post. I can only imagine the toll it places on the players. Even though its football it seems like a lot is riding on their shoulders. I know a lot of people around here are talking about a Rose Bowl appearance but that would be quite astonding considering what has gone on already in the first 1/3 of the season.
Yep... and I got to thinking last night... not only do you have your game switched to monday night, it gives you a short week before you head to Starkville. You'll be back to normal (whatever that is with all that's going on) about halfway through the season... I wouldn't wish that on anyone... O.K., maybe fUSC!! I'm outta here... gotta go "shine the King's shoes"... then go root the Hawkeyes past tOSU... boy, have some hopes for this season been dashed for some already or what??? The bright side is you're still undefeated.
