I agree with your assessment. I also think why see Shyronne Carey come out of the backfield on sweeps and such. Hester may be used as well.
I hate conspiracy theories, but maybe miles is holding back Broussard to make sure he will be around next year.
I thought AB had a thigh bruise & didn't play much. I think Broussard will be the main man along with Addai. As the game progresses, the "hot guy" will see the ball more. There is no way Miles will underutilize AB in hopes of retaining his services for his senior campaign. JMO.
I think Addai is the most versatile running back and will start. He has speed, power, moves, and good hands as a receiver. Broussard is the power back, but he will be used for much more than short-yardage. There will be regular opportunities for a power back to carry a whole drive. Rotating drives keeps the running backs fresher and lessens their chances of injury. Vincent is the quick, shifty moves back that can break out for long gains. Again he will not just be used as a third-down back, but will carry the load on some drives, especially against slower and tired teams. Carey is the speed merchant and will be used in third-down situations and in the slot on many passing downs. The advantage of this kind of depth is that LSU can pound a team steadily with Addai and Broussard and still put in fresh, talented running backs at intervals, especially late in the game to overwhelm tired defenses. Having such a wide variety of skills allows the coaches to tailor the running game to the opponent and the situation more effectively. Also, LSU has suffered many season-ending injuries at running back in recent years. This depth will help us to not have a big drop-off if we take a pounding at RB.
Could be that Miles has seen enough of Alley to know what he brings to the table and wanted to see more of the other backs in the spring game to see what they had. I wouldn't read too much into playing time in the spring game.
cgisclair had said he saw Spring tape and that Broussard looked like a monster, so maybe some of these could be right about why we didn't see to much out of Broussard for the Spring game.
I don't think Miles showed his playcalling tendencies or personel strategies during the scrimmages. Most coaches do this b/c they don't want the other coaches to know what they are doing. I think the only info you can get from the scrimmage is what the talent is capable of. Peace, MCab
I may be completely wrong about this, but Vincent seems more of a cutter than a straight north-south runner like Alley. Didn't we use zone blocking when Vincent was our main guy in 2003? Could we see a return to that? I don't think we used it much last year, which may explain his lack of success.
I believe we did run a zone blocking scheme, but i could be wrong. Justin Vincent is just the type of running back that would flourish in a Broncos running game, they like the slasher/cutting backs.
