Russell a man amongst boys — The former LSU standout is The Incredible Hulk of quarterbacks. The Sugar Bowl MVP stepped to the podium in the Indianapolis Convention Center media room and his physique resembled Carolina Panthers Pro Bowl defensive end Julius Peppers— as a quarterback.
Russell is 6-6¼ and 265 pounds. He's not only bigger than Miami Dolphins quarterback Daunte Culpepper, he's bigger than most of the guys who will be trying to tackle him in the NFL.
"Sometimes you're bigger than most of the defensive guys," Russell says. "It's a lot of fun when you have big guys trying to tackle you and you're not falling.
"I'm a lot bigger than most quarterbacks and at times, I can get out of most trouble smaller guys can't."
Russell will not throw at the combine, preferring to wait instead for his March 14 pro day. Asked how far he can sling it, Russell says matter of factly, "83-84 yards."
Should be worth the wait to watch him throw on his pro day.
