Russell approaching center stage in the Heisman race:
Just in the nick of time, at the start of SEC play, USA Today publishes a great read on J.R., which most Heisman voters are bound to read. His great play and heroics should be spotlighted all season long. I think Russell's the kind of guy that will thrive in the limelight. I think he has a solid chance.

p.s., personally, it gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling knowing that we have an experienced world talent like Russell at the helm. The only downside to Russell winning the Heisman, would be to lose him to the NFL draft--or do you think he would go anyway?
A Senior Russell at LSU would be incredible--awesome.

I think he'll go anyway. The good thing is, we won't be in as bad of shape for next year as when Mauck left as a junior.

Just to add some controversy......If you hade to choose.....
    JR winning the Heisman
    OR
We go to a BCS game and win (not the BCS Championship game, but one of the other games....)

I think Russell would pick the BCS game. He is a team first player.

    Can we do both?

    No?

OK, I'd have to say JR winning Heisman. No one from the SEC has won it for 26 years, for crying out loud. (Right?)

    1) National Championship
    2) Russell wins Heisman (had to have been a great season, anyway)
    3) Non-NC BCS game and win

I think you have to say BCS win. I would love to see JR get some recognition and win the Heisman, but the accomplishments of the team FAR outway the accomplishments of the players. JMO.

Russell wasn't talked about by ANYONE before the season, so for him to win it, LSU would have to be in a position to win it all, so I think it'd all be a win-win situation

This is a question for all you junkies out there.

Who was our last candidate to make it to NY?

I have no clue... It wasn't anyone in my lifetime, I don't think

Jerry Stovall was runner-up in 1962. Perhaps Charles Alexander at least made it to New York?

edit: He finished fifth in 1978 but I don't know how many are invited to NY.
