The NFL is ruining the game of football. How can you look at the film and not see that the receiver lowered his head causing the head to head contact. That is ridiculous. Am I wrong?
Ryan Clark fined for hit shown at Steelers film session as clean - Shutdown Corner - NFL Blog - Yahoo! Sports Read the comments below the video....
Guys like James Harrison at this point have said that it doesn't matter anymore, they just pay the fine and will keep playing the same way they have throughout their careers. They don't care how many times they get fined. I'm really at a loss to understand this safety crusade that Goodell is on, in a sport that is violent by nature.
I didn't see it so I can't comment directly about it. I will say this though: Yes. The NFL has made life a WHOLE lot easier for QB's and WR's and have basically changed the game of football over the past 10 years. It began with the destruction of the Rams WR's by the Patriots DB's when they pounded and beat up on WR's that were soft. ....they lost because the Patriots had a smash-mouth, unhearalded defense (remember, Brady was a shell of his self--calm under pressure, yes, but the 15-20 yard pass was his game back then). Then came the "no contact after 5 yards" penalty... I must be in the severe minority in that while TD's are always nice, I greatly appreciate watching a good defensive game. But there are the vast majority of fans that LIKE 35-31 games...every week....with multiple 40+ yard pass plays every game MOSTLY due to the fact that the defenses are handcuffed because they can't so much as bump the QB while trying to knock down a pass or breath on a WR 5.1 yards downfield. :dis: I will say this about tackling these days that you didn't see 20 years ago: players are using their heads/helmets by launching themselves wrecklessly towards an opponent. Not only is in dangerous, but form tackling has suffered and everyone's looking to get on Sportscenter.
Coach Miles' take: It's going to get so that you have to play NFL football in order to afford the fines that you get for playing NFL football.
It's the wussification of America at it's finest. If you don't wanna get hit then play chess. Last time I checked it was still a contact sport...but seemingly not for long.
