Man, I really respect that guy. Saw a piece on ESPN I think reporting what he is now doing which is coaching high school I believe as an asst coach somewhere. Glad to here he was in the South enjoying some football.
He's an assistant coach at West Texas A&M University, a D-II school. And you're right, as much of a flop as he was in the pros, you can't help but feel good about how he's handled his fall-from-NFL-grace and wish him the best of luck. With all the things he's had to overcome, you wonder if all of his trials and tribulations have made him into a decent motivational speaker?
Real Sports did a segment on Ryan Leaf not all that long ago. Not sure if anyone saw that. I forget who did the interview with him, but said interviewer asked him about the clip of him in the locker room yelling at the reporter. Leaf stated that it made him sick to watch that video. Seems like a decent human being. But just was hot headed young punk who crumbled under the pressure.
Yeah he was a prick going from college to pros... but i've seen him in several interviews... he seems to be humbled now and ashamed of his past behavior. And wow he had so much promise too. it's a shame. He was in peytons draft class but screwed up in SD and Dallas.
Yeah, he was an arrogant jackass coming out of college, but the pro experience definitely humbled him.
