I'd like to know where the athletic department gets all that money!
Maybe we can call that Tennessee coach so that he can get his buddies to investigate what shady deals Bama is up to now!;)

You would be surprised at the number of graduates/Alumni who are in executive positions within Fortune 500 companies.

Seriously though, when you consider the last capital fundraising effort was set at 100 Million for improvements and that goal was reached before they expected, so soon in fact the figure was raised, it goes to show just how much money can be found within our graduates.

Just as an example, there is a lot of construction going on within the city limits of Tuscaloosa right now. One company happens to be headed by Roger Staubach and none other than one Lee Roy Jordan.

If I'm not mistaken, and this was the case the last time I looked at the figures, Notre Dame has the largest contributing Alumni base in the country.

I'll see if I can find up to date info...

As to the comment about UT. You see, a lot of the monies raised in Bama don't have to go to a slush fund for bail bond companies like UT. :thumb:

On a side note: While Broyles at Arkansas was criticized often, he has consistantly ran one of the most profitable Ath. Dept's in the SEC. Now, whether any of that money is coming from state funds or the academic side...I don't know.

Not sure quite what you are getting at here. Dietzel won an NC at LSU and later coached at Army and South Carolina and retired as a successful AD at South Carolina and LSU. No he didn't repeat his success at LSU again, few coaches do. Of course, all this means zero as far a Nick is concerned. Different man, different time, different circumstances, etc.

You mean Les, don't you? :dis: Yes, Nick is a top-20 coach. Just because he is currently the highest paid, doesn't make him the best.

OK, Nick came because he was a good recruiter in an infertile ground. What I'm saying is that there isn't a huge talent hoard in Louisiana that makes a coach a winner. If so, Jerry Stoval would still be our coach. A good coach can recruit sucessfully here (Saban, Arnsparger), a poor coach will can recruit sucessfully here (Hallman), an average coach can recruit poorly here (Dinardo), an average coach can recruit well here (Stovall) and a poor coach can recruit badly here (Archer).

The national championship came because we had BOTH good recruiting, a good coach, a good schedule, and some good luck. Will Nick repeat this at Bama? Who knows? But he is a good coach and he can recruit.

I don't think so. Nick has a good crop of assistants at Bama.

No way. U of Alabama owns Alabama. Auburn would be another Michigan State.

Nick is rough on assistants and will turn over about 3 a year. Some leave because they can't take his krap. Other leave because they don't measure up to Saban's requirements. The word is out on Nick. He has no trouble attracting assistants because he also propels successful assistants into better jobs and coaches know that they will learn someting under Nick. Assistants doen't expect to stay at a school for 25 years anymore. They move every 2 or 3 years, learning new skills, gaining experience, and paying their dues under several mentors. Some don't mind working under a very demanding Nick Saban for a couple of years if it makes them a better coach.

For the life of me, I just don't understand why everything that Nick did at LSU were great virtues but now those same things are liabilities at Bama and will cause his downfall. Don't hold your breath, amigo.
