Benson, Jindal to make announcement on Saints deal Thursday

NEW ORLEANS - Governor Bobby Jindal and Saints Owner Tom Benson will hold a joint press conference Thursday at the Superdome to make an announcement regarding the team's future in the city of New Orleans.

The announcement will come one day after Jindal and state Sen. John Alario talked to the media about a potential deal with the team that would reduce the amount of payments the State of Louisiana makes to the team on an annual basis.

"Our goal here is to reduce the Saints dependence on state general funds to make sure that they're actually generating the funds that will be used to keep them here in Louisiana beyond there current contract," said Jindal.

Alario said a deal would likely cap payments at $6 million per year, down from the current $23.5 million the Saints have made in recent years.
