And a lot of posters around here were saying the opposite.

If Payton don't fire the rest of the defensive staff, then he can pack his bags too.

they must have been hitting the sauce a little to much.

The DL was HORRIBLE this year.

Smith and Grant are the most overpaid players in the NFL.

    No argument here.

Actually, I would have been pleased to see Payton hit the curb.

And I wish the Chiefs would hurry up and fire Edwards. :angryfire

I hope the Bengals fire Lewis.

Would love to have him as our DC.

I know it won't happen, but a guy can dream...

Smith and Grant were underperforming and overpaid before Ed got there. I'm really not sure why it is that the Saints continue to make coaches the scapegoat when players do this (See Aaron Brooks)

Does Payton have ultimate say in drafting and acquiring free agents? If not then what do you want. They guy is young, creative and the Saints are more interesting to watch in a LONG time. This thing of firing coaches so soon is ridiculous.

The Saints have an explosive offense and without injuries a solid defensive line. With the right draft and the right free agent pick ups the Saints are right back in the NFC hunt.

This team is not that far off. The Saints defensive problems have more to do with personnel than coaching.

Payton calls plays like he's playing Madden 09. Anyone remember the fourth down double reverse a couple of years ago that lost the game?

There is very little use of a running game, despite actually having a decent one, because Payton is more concerned with flash and setting records. How many times could Deuce have helped, especially in goal line situations, and Payton was too stubborn to let him play? Give me a break. Had Payton not been here, the Saints would still have gotten Brees (Saban wanted Culpepper), and the offense would still be effective, but maybe not as explosive. Hell, we may actually have a defense.

As fun as it may be to watch, I would much rather have a team with an incredible defense than a team with an incredible offense. Defense wins championships, bub. We need a Parcells-type of coach, not a Martz-type of coach.
