If you see any articles, please post… I listened to Miles press conference from the Geaux Zone. Paraphrasing the intro, he said he was pleased overall with intensity and quality of play. They were sloppy at times, and had some penalties they shouldn’t have. Other things Miles said that stood out: * No turnovers * Probably should run more efficiently, but overall still a nice first go * Special teams: Colt David perfect in field goals, hit maybe 5 from varying lengths. Patrick fisher did well, averaged around 45 yards per punt. Teams looked good, but returns still need work. * Just under 100 plays were run. Ran the team after the scrimmage. It was a good week, and after 10 straight practices they are looking forward to Fan Day and a break on Sunday. Q&A from the media. It was almost impossible to even hear the questions, so these are just random comments that I heard… * W. Arnold, R. Murphy, J. Mitchell, and G. Dorsey didn’t play * M. Flynn was 5/9 w/ a TD and around 100 yards passing * J. Lee was 4/6, had nice 2 minute drive against 2nd team defense, threw for around 60 yds * Perrilloux was 1 for 4, no other mention * Defense was stingy, “I don’t think we ran the ball very well” * K. Williams 9/30; C. Scott 7/30; S. Ridley 70 yards, but mostly against 3rd team defense; Hester didn’t get many carries * 3 teams on special teams; C. Jones + S. Ridley took snaps? * T. Tolliver looked good, had a nice catch; D. Byrd had a nice catch too * 3 sacks overall, K. Pittman looked very good, having a good camp * T-Bob played on 25 or so snaps, looked good * A lot of the game plan has been introduced, but more to go in * No tackling in Tuesday’s scrimmage * No serious injuries, but LBs Riley and Cutera were a little banged up
Guilbeau released a summary with more accurate stats than I had: Flynn, Doucet shine in LSU scrimmage
Miles also said that the top receivers are Doucet, LaFell, Toliver, and Byrd. Looks like the Mitchells & Dixon are quickly beeing passed up on the depth chart.
I wouldn’t count Jared out just yet, but you got to be on the field to be able to contribute. I was guessing the tight ends would be in the mix a little more until some of the younger guys settle in. I’m not surprised to hear about Toliver, and production for Byrd would be a nice bonus at this stage of his career… LSU put out a good writeup - Tigers Complete First Fall Scrimmage
Kirston Pitman had three sacks and 5.5 tackles. Either he's finally well and completely back . . . or our offensive tackles sucked.
My main dissapointment has been our freshmen TE's. Crowton utilizes the TE a lot, and I thought we had a pretty good group coming in that could contribute, but it appears nobody is ready to step up yet. Other than that, several incoming recruits look like they can contribute right away.
They had no chance to contribute this year though, Zinger and Dickson have that position on lockdown for various reasons. Dickson will be a good one, he can really block well when he knows his assignments, and obviously can run and catch. I hope Corbin is given a chance at DE. Alex Russian looks very athletic in the photos that have come out of practice, I wish we had some video. I haven't seen anything relating to Joseph, but we knew he had some growing to do.
