Scott's Thoughts: LSU v. USC would be a match made in sports heaven Sure it's a long shot, but one can dream can't they? 12:28 PM CST on Thursday, November 30, 2006 Scott Cody / WWL-TV Sports Anchor If you are not an LSU fan or haven't been around one since 2003, a typical Saturday goes something like this: A big win over opponent X; euphoria until next Sportscenter viewing; Stuart Scott mentions USC could go for their 3rd national title in four years; euphoria turns into rage. Since 2003 LSU fans, despite a national championship, have moped around with a huge co-national championship sized chip on their shoulder. Wins, no matter who they come against, or the manner in which they come, haven't been truly appreciated since that fateful year the Assosciated Press decided to buck the system and give their vote to USC rather than LSU. Before 2003, most LSU fans considered USC as "that place where O.J. went." Now it's referred to with several expletives and punctuated by the phrase, "no wonder O.J. went there!" From dueling billboards to fan website bashing, this has become the rivalry that never happened. Until this year...maybe. It is obvious the college football gods are a shrewd bunch. Most outside of the midwest are not in favor of an Ohio St-Michigan rematch for the national title (I don't have facts to back that last statement up, but I'm sure if I tried real hard, I could find something). But a USC loss to UCLA Saturday and that is the case. The by-product of that upset would set up the grudge match only Vince McMahon could think of (no I am not a WWF or WWX fan or whatever it's called now, but that dude is a marketing genius). LSU vs. USC in the Rose Bowl. It could be called: DECISION 2003 - NOT EVEN THE AP CAN SCREW THIS ONE UP. As much as an all- Big 10 title game gets to my "wonder what's on comedy central at that time" juices going, it would be worth it. Great article... Ill take either USC or MIchigan and be happy... But the USC game would have some hype about it
