Evidently, the SEC expected them to do something with the 65,000, thus the fine. As for the morons, I agree. You make my point. Precisely the reason that the spectators need to spectate and stay the hell off the field.
I can see both sides of this situation: Safety concerns for the teams and staff, both home and visitor. Emotional fan/player celebration for a hard fought upset. It's a valid point that 65,000 people can do whatever they want unless there's 65,000 cops there to stop them, just not feasible. I doubt their/our students care if their tuition goes up another $1.00 over a miniscule fine, even if increased 10x to $500,000. They will only care if they are fined individually. If safety is the real concern then maybe more security around the team/staff would alay the fear of rogue fans starting a violent fight/riot. I remember seeing CLM and his escorts (only 2 or 3 troopers) trying to meet CRB at midfield dodging all the fans and fearing a misunderstanding turing violent on the field. Read later that they had to meet an hour and a half later to shake hands. Later, Fur
Considering it was UK vs. the #1 team in the country, I have no problem with them rushing the field. Like someone said, I'm sure we did the same when we beat #1 UF 10 years ago. As long as they don't confront our players and coaches, more power to them. They earned it.
Hell 7 years ago the students rushed the field after we beat #11 Tennessee, #13 Mississippi State, unranked Alabama (am I missing any?). It got so bad LSU had to lube up the goal posts.
Ring the field with 400 cops with big black sticks and two dozen plastic handcuffs like LSU now does. The whole stadium doesn't rush the field, just a couple of thousand yahoos. You get arrested on the field and you can be expelled or lose your season tickets as well as facing criminal charges. Think that might get their attention?
