It's the offseason, what the heck. Not quite a decade, but almost. 1. LSU 2. Florida 3. Ga. 4. Auburn 5. Tenn. 6. Arky 7. S. Carolina 8. Vandy 9. Alabama 10. Ole Miss 11. Kentucky 12. Miss. St. Your thoughts?
1. LSU - 2 natty champs with more W's and SECCG appearances than Florida since '00. 2. Florida - 2 natty champs, but overall not as impressive as LSU. 3. Auburn - Only SEC team this decade to go undefeated...but no natty champs and a lot of mediocrity surrounding that. 4. Tennessee - Always did well...but never well enough. 5. Georgia - See above, with one less SECCG appearance. 6. Arkansas - 2 SECCG appearances keep them in the top half. Two losses put them at the bottom 7. Kentucky - At least they've had a couple of good seasons lately. 8. Vandy - Did well with Cutler. 9. S. Carolina - Always a threat. Seems to field a "solid" team every year but do nothing with it. 10. Ole Miss - Started off REALLY badly but coming on strong now. 11. Moo U - Punching bags of the SEC 12. Alabama - Because I hate them.
I'd do it by strict criteria. 1 point for each win, minus 1 point for each loss. 10 points for each BCS national championship. 6 points for each SEC championship. 3 points for each division championship. 2 points for each bowl win, minus 2 points for each bowl loss. . . . but I don't have the data for all the teams. Some statguy can spreadsheet it perhaps, but LSU and Florida will be #1 and #2 I bet.
That's a little harsh, huh? Just GETTING to a bowl should be rewarded. Sometimes teams are mismatched. For instance...Florida had NO business playing Michigan in '07...:hihi:
If these numbers represent a team's record over nine seasons...what tier do you think they should be ranked in. One, two, or three? 7-6 5-6 5-7 4-8 3-8 2-9 2-9 2-10 2-10
Although I am Bias I am hard pressed to put Florida over LSU. Yes both have BCS titles, But to say Florida's was not as "impressive" for me is a stretch. Both teams can look at their title runs and find flaws. Florida has a Heisman Trophy winner. Both have bowl losses to very average Big 10 teams (both have a hammering of ohio state) I guess my point and its just my opinion I would put Florida slightly ahead of LSU.... But its a close 2nd....
I haven't counted wins, but I think LSU was stronger than Fla. for a good stretch in the Zook years, and LSU had the SEC Champ. in 01. Miles had a powerful run since he's been here, cept 08.
Exactly. LSU has more SECCG wins and a better head-to-head. I didn't mean to say that LSU's championship runs were more impressive than Florida's...although LSU went undefeated in regulation through '07...but overall I feel that LSU has been more impressive this decade than has Florida.
Don't forget Florida's 2000 SEC championship. This decade, LSU is 90-27 in 117 games. Florida is 87-29 in 116 games. The difference in total games played is LSU's 4 SECCG appearances, compared to Florida's 3. It's definitely a tough call, but I give the nod to LSU.
