:geaux: Saban won't be able to either. :hihi: Believe he signed about 37 or something like that for his '08 class. :LSU231:

I think it was 32, but still farther over the 25 limit than I thought it should be. I guess Nutt saw what Saban did, then if 32 was good, 37 was better. I agree with the administration, put everyone on the same basis. I like it.

Les appears to be in a strong recruiting position, so is being selective, and he has not had to oversign and watch the fallout. I think his most recent 2 classes have had very little fallout. I'm impressed.

:geaux: Yeah, I knew Saban signed over 30 but couldn't remember the exact number. 32 sounds more like it, thanks. Couldn't agree more with the decision by the SEC to put everyone on the same standard. Makes it a fair playing field for all with 28 now being the limit. Nutt signing 37 was ridiculous in all respects. :LSU231:

I think something like 13 of Nutt's '09 class will not qualify and most of those probably never had much hope of qualifying. Makes me wonder how his '09 class would rank if he had only signed 25.

Would those kids have been better off signing with Southern Miss, or La. Tech, or South Fla. right out of high school, and knowing where they are going, than be scrambling now to find a spot? I think so. I don't think Nutt nor Saban did those kids any favor.

I think the new rule will serve the kids better.

They didn't lose a spot and from the football side of things Nutt did a good job. However, the presidents of these institutions have more than a legit argument against this practice.

He and the ten or so ineligible player knew they would not qualify and some will greyshirt. He just signed them basically hoping it will influence their decision after prep school or JUCO...and it usually does. If anything signing with Ole Miss is probably helping them because they were probably promised a scholarship in one or two years.

Just curious why the SEC would set a limit of 28, when the NCAA mandated limit is already established at only 25?

The NCAA does not have a limit.

You only have 25 scholarships per year, but you can accept more commitments, even signed letter of intent (LOI). So, basically, the coach is expecting that not all the commitments will qualify academically, and he will be able to give the 25 scholly's to the ones that eventually do qualify. Those that don't qualify can take correspondence courses, go to a school like Hargrave Military Academy and complete their academic requirements, or go to a 2 year jr. college and come up to FBS (what D1 is called now) in 2 years. Another option has been to go to Southern Miss for which they are academically qualified and play their career there.
