Wow, you don't think there are legions of Gator fans still longing for the Ol' Ball Coach? http://www.thestate.com/mld/thestate/sports/11952954.htm Sorry if the above is registration only (don't know if it is). Excerpt: Okay, now that's just...weird.
Remember, before Spurrier, Florida hadn't won much in the SEC. But you're right about it being odd. If Saban came back and took the State job, I don't see LSU fans clamoring to hear his call-in show or buy MSMoo tickets.
There are a bunch of people that seem to have a big man-crush on Spurrier here in Florida. A good example is the first season he 'coached' the Redskins when the Sunshine Network decided to air the weekly Redskins Coaches show and wouldn't miss a chance to put him on TV. Pretty sad considering we have 3 NFL teams that didn't the same coverage statewide.
agreed. Has anyone else heard that the gators will run the option this year?...if so, think it will have any success?
I believe defenses in the SEC are too fast for a true option offense to work...however it can be used very effectively if the right situations are chosen. But no an "option-offense" will not work in the SEC imo.
True dat. There's a reason the only teams that run it frequently are from mid to lower-level conferences.
Spurrier will score a lot of points....he still will.....but at USC, he wont have the talent he had at Florida. He won't have the luxury of playing an average UGA team anymore while UF is darn good.
Florida has been practicing a version of the option, and that is why Meyer has admitted that Leak will probably take a few lumps. I think that Meyer thinks that the SEC refs are going to let him run his offense at a, "no huddle," pace. He may be in for a big surprise. Richt has wanted to do the same thing for the last two seasons and the SEC wouldn't let him. Georgia used the option in their spring game, and with the running backs and veteran OL that Georgia has, they are the biggest threat to making it work well.
