Was just on Mike and Mike talking about March Madness. Greenie asked if there were any teams flying under the radar. Off the bat he said "I don't know whether you consider LSU under the radar but they are a final four caliber team. (paraphrasing) they have the great guard in marcus thorton and solid play of tasmin mitchell. although some are not really sure how to evaluate them b/c they didn't play anyone in non conference." I guess b/c of our depth and lack of bulk down low along with the sec being down i never considered us final four caliber and more of a sweet sixteen team. i guess it took a cbs guy on espn for espn not to hate us
its so pathetic that it makes me laugh. too many of these national guys just give teams a superficial look. i guess i should qualify that to read "just give non-top 10 teams". before they werent paying attention, now they are overstating things.
well there's been so much talk about lack of respect that i thought davis spoke complimentary of us but backhanded with the non conf sched angle (you know in case we lose in the 1st or 2nd rd, he can fall back on that) but calling us final four caliber is pretty big words. i was amazed that after our UK win on espn and cbs the lead in post highlight was "so what does this mean for kentucky?"
all we'll hear for the next two weeks "bubble, bubble, bubble" then itll be "cinderella, cinderella, cinderella"
The good thing about college basketball is that once you are in, all the talking heads are irrelevant. No voting, no posturing, ... you just have to win. Managed to avoid Dick Vitale thus far, have not enjoyed Bobby Knight one bit. Tend to change the station when he's on. Arrogant Richard that he is.
This is swinging too far in the other direction. The Tigers will probably play very well in the tournament, but to call them Final Four caliber? Without a big man who can challenge in the paint? I think even Trent Johnson is scoffing at that one.
Bruce Pearl on sporting news radio today said regardless of the so called lack of quality teams in the sec that because of experience, ability to score, rebound and defend LSU in his mind is a legit contender to make the final four.
But depth? It takes bench depth to go deep in the tournament and LSU is one injury away from average. If LSU makes the sixteen playing six or seven guys, I'll be delighted.
