Stromile Swift has officially signed a contract with the Rockets. details undisclosed currently. Shaquille O'Neal will sign a 5-year deal worth a reported $100 million later today. O'Neal's agent Perry Rogers said, ''It's about winning''.The deal will keep Shaq in Miami past his 38th birthday.
I think that as the face of the team, Shaq is worth that much, but I doubt he'll play 5 more years. He seems to always have that nagging foot problem. Thats a long time to play for anyone. Especially a big man like Shaq. That will be a lot of wear and tear.
Shaq was set to make $30 million next season, but decided to take a $10 million dollar "pay cut" and sign for 5 years at $20 million a season.... This should free up a few bones for another shooter..... You think Shaq wants another ring? How does Shaq's IcyHot commercial go? "I want another ring so bad it hurts"....or something Shaq still claims he's never spent one penny of his NBA salary, just endorsement money....
It's the Rockets' mid-level exception, so about $5M/year...probably for 4 years. They've got a lot of bad contracts expiring after next year, so I suspect they'll renegotiate if he really shows some talent.
The Miami Herald says that shooter will be Antoine Walker, but god i hope not. I HATE that guy. His defense is minimal at best, he can't rebound when he is in the paint and he's only a career 32% 3 pt shooter anyway. On the other hand, kudos for Shaq for taking a personal cut to help the team (not that it'll put him on the street or anything) and i can't wait to see the Tmac and Stro show here next year.
He didn't take a paycut to save on the salary cap. He took a one year paycut to get another long term deal. Just to be clear here...
if the shooter is antoine, the pistons will own them again... they need someone else that can penetrate, besides wade... they are too predictable... pass down to shaq and then either pass out for a three, go back to wade to drive in, or shaq shoots a turn around jumper... their success wasnt magic... they need a legit 3 man that can handle the ball... obviously they cant afford carmello... but he's in the mold of what they need.
