Should Spadoni or McGill consider redshirting?

Both players have a redshirt to give. McGill may start this year if he can beat out Will Arnold, Herman Johnson, and others. Obviously, if he goes into the season as a starting guard, he should not redshirt. I am asking if he should consider redshirting if he goes into the season as a reserve. He is a senior. If he redshirts, he would have a much better chance to start in 2006, because we lose Whitworth, Niswanger, and Livings. From LSU's perspective, he would help the OL transition into 2006 after losing those three senior starters.

I think Spadoni should consider redshirting. He is buried on the depth chart behind Broussard, Addai, Vincent, and Carey. Even Hester was ahead of him last year. Next year, Broussard or Vincent may leave early if one is the starter and has a big year on a top 5 team. Addai and Carey are definitely gone. Spadoni might be #2 on the depth chart going into 2006. He has good size and talent. Coaches like to have an experienced player like Spadoni.

    Thoughts?

McGill was a true junior and could not beat out a RS Freshman in Will Arnold...He won't do it this offseason, during the spring, or in the offseason, nor in fall camp of '05, either...Barring injury, McGill won't beat out Arnold, period.

The true question is right tackle. When Johnson went to right tackle, and they moved Livings back inside to Guard, LSU clicked-BIGTIME. If Livings does not improve LIGHT YEARS from '04 to '05, then we will have huge issues with the offense. We'll have to probably go max protect, and once again not utilize tight ends, and not allow for backs catching anything other than screens because we have to worry about the right edge.

If either Miller or Planchard develop into a starting center, the Niswanger will slide down to guard, and Arnold will man the other side...McGill may very well consider redshirting.

I will say this, though...McGill is the most athletically gifted of any LSU lineman other than Whitworth. His problem is his head. He's got a head full of knowledge about how much talent he has. He's never translated that into on the field focus, from what I hear...

Spadoni? Spandoni? Hmm...I dunno...We got some good ones this year, and we're stocked for at least two more years at running back, as is...Maybe he should look at transferring, rather than redshirting...

Why would we have huge issues with the offense? If the OL clicked with Johnson at RT and Livings at guard last year, why wouldn't it this year too? It would be the same line: Whitworth, Livings, Niswanger, Arnold, and Johnson.

When he originally signed with us out of Curtis (?), he was listed as a Safety by rivals. I know we have some talent returning in the secondary, but if he were to switch sides, over to defense, he wouldn't find himself buried on the depth chart.

As it stands now, looking past '05, JV and Alley will each have another year remaining and RJ Jackson and Antoine Robinson, depending on if they redshirt (I expect Robinson to RS for '05 and RJ Jackson to get some playing time seeing as they want to use him as a RB/WR), so that's 3 and 4 years, respectively remaining for the both of those guys.

In '06, Spanoni will still find himself behind JV and/or Alley, RJ Jackson, Hester AND A-Rob.

That's 6th on the depth chart--POSSIBLY 5th depending on if JV and/or Alley stay or should one leave early for the NFL.

Throw in the likely-hood that Miles is no doubt going to sign yet another RB next recruiting season, and Spadoni, IMO, is better off on the defensive side of the football.

Does he have that much better of a shot at earning a spot in our defensive backfield.

But at least on defense, as a DB, there could be as many as 6 DB's on the field at one time. Roughly 14 DB's on the roster. Heck, he's 2-3 deep instead of being 5.

Since Spadoni had to sit out2003 can he redshirt? Or does he maybe still have 2 years left to play like Vincent?

Maybe they should both finish school and get on with thier lives. Senior season is made to enjoy and hope to play as much as possible. LSU will have all the help they need down the road without these men needing to try and prolong the college careers.

Are we really talking about Jason freaking Spandoni? He's a special teamer at best, we knew that when he came out of Curtis. Granted he's pretty good on special teams, but he should never be in any of our other lineups.
