According to this article Shula never got a chance to present his plans to make changes. I wonder how the coaches that are looking at this job feel about how the Alabama AD has handled this whole situation. http://www.al.com/sports/birminghamnews/index.ssf?/base/sports/116470979388360.xml&coll=2
Finebaum reported the same thing based on his sources. For a guy that stepped-in and bailed Alabama out of a very messy situation, he sure isn't being treated very well. It's the same complaint I had about the methods used during AU's jetgate scandal ..... only worse. Mike Shula is an Alabama son, a legacy. If Bammy would do it to Shula, they'd do it to anybody.
It happens everywhere. Gerry Dinardo came in after 6 straight Archer/Hallman losing seasons and took us to three strraight bowl games and a 10-win season. He actually brought back the magic as well as the white home jerseys. But he was too loyal to assistant coaches that were not getting the job done resulting in two losing seasons and he was dumped unceremoniously before the season was even finished. These guys get paid a chitload of money to win and if they don't, they are out of here. It works the other way, too. A winning coach can leave for a better offer in a heartbeat. Coaches know how the system works. Loyalty has damn little to do with it. You either win or you walk.
That is true, but at least we didn't leave DiNardo hanging. Moore let Shula meet with team, then after that meeting told him he was fired. Why couldn't he have told him before the meeting so Shula could address his team? I understand why they fired him, but how they went about it was pretty crappy. They left him hanging for how long, letting him think he was coming back next year?
probably no "good way" to do it, but given the loyalty demonstrated by Shula to UA, they certainly could've given the guy a better exit. Shameful. Hey, .... check out M-Zone's report on who UA is hiring as Shula's replacement (warning: colorful language content):  http://www.michiganzone.blogspot.com/
If Shula's behind the scenes actions were performed better he may have been given the chance to "show his plan."
I think Shula got tired of the Bama BS and he did what he did to get fired and now him and his wife are going to move back to South Florida, sit on the beach and enjoy the sunsets while cashing that 4 million dollar check. Then next year, he will be on ESPN as a "expert" talking head.
