Here are my thoughts on the game: Our QB debacle will linger on into the next game, and even into UGA. Neither QB is consistent enough to claim the starting role. Russell had a good game today, and I thought that all of our freshman receivers played very well. Randall, however, I don't think we can bash him at all today. Although his throws weren't consistent (some were dead on, others were wounded ducks), he played a pretty good game. Our run game is not very strong at all, and someone needs to step up on that OL and take charge, become a vocal leader, and get that unit playing together. Nate Livings looked horrible today, not to mention a few others at times, but Nate just flat out stunk. Broussard was good for the most part, but AU's DL had our number all day. They tackled better, they wreaked havoc in the backfield, and they played well in the secondary. Our defense on the other hand blew so many opportunities. We missed tackles and blew coverage assignments. Our secondary is way better than what they're showing. And another thing, I'm sorry for criticizing our boys so much, but the DL and LBs need to work on tackling drills all this week. You do not let ONE MAN keep running over your first and second level defenders play after play. Last year, LSU gang tackled and they drove people back. Today, they arm tackled all game long. Corey Webster, I'm convinced, is the best tackler on this team. The thing about our QBs is the fact that neither can move the ball up and down the field against solid opponents. We barely get into FG range, much less the redzone.
I don't think the QB situation will linger. I think Nick and Jimbo are smart enough to realize that it probably cost us the game today. I don't know who will start the game against MSU and UGA, but if they lead us down the field for a TD on the opening drive I don't think they'll be coming out of the game.
You must stick with one guy and let him either lead youi tro victory or defeat. It is to difficult to gain momintume in a two QB system. you seen today players out of sync with one or the ather Qb
So if they don't lead us down the field for a TD, they'll come out, right? Thus, we have the conflict lingering. Neither is stable enough for the job at this point. Right now, this is the best thing for JR. He performs well, but with Randall still in and out, it's pushing JR to become a better QB. No matter what the outcome is, I think this season will be a success. We'll have a better approach for next year by learning things this year. Youth is killing us.
No, I think if Russell starts the MSU game he won't come out until LSU has built up enough of a lead to the point where Flynn would come in. If Randall starts it is a distraction for the team because any mistake that he makes Nick and Jimbo will feel the urge to put JR in. Also, this whole ordeal has to be getting to Randall, right now if he goes into the game he is going to be thinking that he has to be perfect or else he is coming out of the game. That adds a lot of unnecessary pressure and I don't think Randall is the kind of guy who thrives under pressure. I guess my bottom line is that JR starting and playing the whole game would solve a lot of problems. The more Randall plays the more questions there will be.
I see what you're saying, but you play to win, and if JR isn't going to lead us to victory, than he doesn't need to be in. The TD we scored today was on the first drive that Randall was in on. He seems to be more fleet-footed than JR is. I think if he would just improve his passes, he would be good to go. As far as the pressure goes, he strives to be pefect but it's not so much that, it's just how he gets so damn tense. He's not scared of the QB situation, b/c he's a team player and he supports JR and whatever decision is made. I don't know what to think. Part of me says be done with it and start Russell, the other part says start Randall still and let Russell and him battle for the spot on the field. We'll just let Nick and Jimbo figure this one out, b/c they're the ones who win the games.
No doubt that Randall can scramble better than JR, but the RB's are back there to pick up yards on the ground, I want a QB who can win games by throwing the ball. I've been saying this all day, but I don't want Randall in there for one simple reason: Jimbo is scared to throw the ball when MR is in the game. In 2nd and 7 we should be looking for David Jones over the middle or Craig Davis on the sidelines, but instead we're running the ball with MR the whole way. If Randall is in the game teams are going to stack the line and force us to beat us with the pass and quite frankly I don't think Randall can beat any team in the SEC throwing the ball. And it sucks to say that.
I disagree. You sound to me like someone who's been on the Russell wagon and now that he didn't look that great today, you want to say he should start just because. Doesn't work. The pressure has to be getting to Randall? I've got news for you. If you watched the game today, Randall actually looked better, and he drove for our only TD. He looked pretty darn composed under all the pressure put on him today. Maybe the pressure is actually making him play better, because he looked pretty darn good last week too. Plus, I know Russell has a great arm and all, but his passing wasn't that great today, and his lack of mobility probably cost us some plays. Randall was able to pick up some good yardage running today, and his passing looked pretty darn good too. I don't know what the answer is, but it's ridiculous to be swearing by Russell after the last 2 games, and saying Randall should be a bench warmer. Except for the first half of the first game, Randall has played pretty darn well.
Ok, that I can agree with. We need to develp a consistent passing game in order to spread the defense a bit to open up lanes for our run game. At times the holes were there, but LBs and secondary personnel jumped in there to shut down the run.
Randall was terrible after the first drive. And that backs up my original statement. The pressure is getting to Randall because he has to realize that unless he plays flaw-less the freshman is coming in. And you're assessment that I'm one of the one's that has been on the JR bandwagon the whole way is completely wrong. I supported MR being our QB and I truly believed that he was going to be great this year, but unfortunately it hasn't been that way.
