Why not bring back the wish bone, or triple option with Alley, Jacob, Joseph, Justin.... with Randall at QB... maybe Perriloux or a mobile Flynn next year. Started off as a sarcastic post... now that I think about it could do wonders.
Ga. Southern put up 338 yds. on a good Jawja defense running the Triple, they just didnt have the defense to stop Greene & Co. (lol, we had the same problem).
I sort of think that offense has been played out. I know it's hard to stop when executed properly, but with the speed of the SEC's top defenses, it would not be effective enough to win with consistently. Granted, we haven't had 100 yards passing the last 2 weeks and still won, but those games were against average (at best) teams. In this league, you have to have balance to win.
Even if we factored in a couple of option formations, and used it a little maybe to open up a post pass or a screen pass... regardless of how played out it is, I still think with our offense right now... it would add another dimension and another threat with Randall in the game. Our QB's seem to be able to hit the short passes early on, but then we start calling curls and deeper routes and they get discouraged with the drops etc... I have seen alot of teams still use a little option, just wonder why CNS hasnt added a little to our arsenal.
If you're saying to add it in as another dimension, then I would be all for that. It's still an effective weapon when used in certain situations. I just don't think we could consistently win if we ran it exclusively.
I actually believe that we could with a QB like Tommy Frazier was... extremely mobile and a nice acurate short pass...
But I would settle for just bringing a couple of formations in just to add something to our offense this year.
Had this thread early in the year and Saban don't want it. (the Option) So I guess one answer to your question is because Nick Saban is the caoch and hates the option offense.
I would rather they spend practice time working on formations they'll be using alot in games instead of using time learning a new scheme that would only be used sparingly in the games. Maybe next year or a bowl game, but there isn't time to add much before the Arky game.
