Some people will just never be happy unless every game is 52-0 with 2 hundred ypg rushers and a 300 ypg qb. The jock envy of Alabama is ridiculous, just become Bama fans and your problems are solved.... Except LSU is the only team that has beaten Bama more than twice in the last 6 years so don't get upset when that happens again. Eddie Murphy said it best "give em an inch they want 2 inches, give em 4 inches they want 5, give a nigga a rope he wants to be a cowboy"
I wonder why anyone would be critical of an underperforming offense? It's not like we recruit quality players on offense and no LSU fans should really expect to.
It all starts with the Offensive Line and runs through the QB...two places we HAVEN'T had much recruiting luck with in recent years. It's been bust after bust...and IDK where that problem is coming from. Is it an issue of evaluation? Maybe. Probably. But it could also just as easily be plain old bad luck. You can plan a pretty picnic but you can't control the weather. At least now we have a better picnic planner that can possibly work around such calamities.
We have had a few OL over the years Whitworth, Livings, Barksdale (Remember, he was moved from DT to OT), Big Herm and a few more. Looking at UT, the state of Texas has around 400 kids every year that sign out of high school, Mack has had 1 (ONE) player drafted since 2007, thats it. You would think having the choice of just about every player in the state of Tx he could find more than one player to make in into the NFL draft. Now look at this year with LSU, P.J., Faulk and Josh(The thing about Josh, hes played just about every position across the OL and spent time on the Special Teams, thats a major plus in the NFL) all have a shot in the NFL. We had a True Freshman and a Red-Shirt Freshman line up and play against the best in the SEC and do well. We are starting to add depth, somethings thats been missing. The class of O-Linemen signed in this class looks to be better than just about every school in the Nation.
True enough, but we've had a bit of a Lull between Big Herm and today. Even last year's line, which showed a TON of promise and had a couple of great games, had glaring weaknesses that were exploited consistently, especially late in the season. Maybe that's a byproduct of Stud wearing too many hats, but the fact remains that the line has been a bit of a liability. That being said, I believe it's a strong likelihood that we'll see a return to domination with Stud coaching only the O-line (presumably), the returning talent, and the new blood.
Hope so, remember, Barksdale was in 2011, after big Herm was drafted. Ciron Black was another, he was ranked high after his Jr. year and some talk as to him bypassing his Sr. year. Also Hurst was ranked high along with Faulk at the start of the season.
Sure...but having one or two great (yet still largely underperforming and/or injured) guys and a bunch of also-rans doesn't really make a line good. We've had far too many sacks over the last three years or so. I have to admit that the run-blocking has been really good, most of the time. Unfortunately, it just wasn't enough. You HAVE to pass to compete, and pass pro has been atrocious, despite the talent along the line. EDIT: Bull and Dozer will reverse that trend.
Barksdale, Black, Hurst, Dworacyzk, Shaw, Lonergan, each made an all-SEC team. Collins, Alexander and Turner seem ready to do the same thing. We haven't had a lack of good talent on the O-line. The problem has been inadequacies at quarterback and offensive coordinator.
