A couple nice runs from Fason including a 30 yarder. DeShawn Wynn ran the ball well a couple times inlcuding a 40-50 yarder. Jimtavis Walker had a couple nice runs as well.

Troupe 80yrd touchdown pass, where he knocked the defender down in front of him as he was catching the ball.
The fb Latsko had a nic 20+ yard catch. Baker had a few great catches, a couple where he went up and just snatched the ball out of the air. Mo Mitchell had a great play, slid into the backfield immediately and took down the runner. Jemall Cornelius took a 20 yrd pass or so and took it 80 for a touch.

As for the qbs. If Leak does not get the starting position it is soley because h is a freshman, he looked very crisp, and by far looked like the best one out there. I would say during the 11 on 11, he threw the ball 25-30 times. Only one of the passes was not on target, a ball thrown in the endzone. Another pass fell incomplete because of pass interference, and one hit the tight ends hands, and bounced off into the cb's hand for an interception. Dickey looked good at times as well, he had great mobility. Ingle looked only ok I thouhgt, had a few good passes, hjad a few bad passes. He had one nice run, where he did a great fake to the tb, and took it to the conrner of the endzone for 7 yards, untouched. The entire defense was faked out on the play. As for Midgett, I think he will be redshirting, lookd a little confused at times in the backfield, and took a couple sacks.

There were a few scouts from the nfl there....phins, bucs, and jags. They had to be impressed with Leak.

Nothing like a QB controversey just before the season begins. Maybe Zook will go to the Spurrier switch QBs every play rotational method.

Florida, along with Nebraska and Washington are no longer in the elite and will be middle of the pack for years to come - reason - no or mediocre coaching. Allows for the LSU's of the world to rise to the top - reason - St. Nick.

one of Florida coach Ron Zook's biggest concerns now might be this: How does he temper all the enthusiasm being generated by true freshman quarterback Chris Leak? In his Florida Field debut, in front of several thousand fans, the kid was good. Very good. Maybe even better than that.

Of the four quarterbacks vying for the starting position, Leak had the best night — and the numbers to support it. During the situational phase of the scrimmage, which lasted about an hour, Leak did not throw a single incompletion. He was a jaw-dropping 9-for-9 for 199 yards and two touchdowns. He threw a 74-yard TD strike to redshirt freshman wide receiver Jemalle Cornelius on his second play on the field, then threw a 21-yard TD pass to Cornelius a little bit later on.

For the overall scrimmage, Leak was 12-of-14 for 227 yards and two touchdowns. After the scrimmage a sports writer tried to bait Zook into saying Leak appears to clearly be UF's No. 1 quarterback. Zook didn't bite. "He's a heck of a player. Absolutely," Zook said. "But all four quarterbacks did some good things and some things that weren't so good. Absolutely, he's a very good football player."

The second-best quarterback in the first fall scrimmage was redshirt sophomore Ingle Martin, who completed 9-of-14 passes for 67 yards and ran three yards for a touchdown. Redshirt freshman Gavin Dickey had only one highlight passing the ball — a 74-yard TD pass to tight end Ben Troupe that was mostly run — while true freshman Justin Midgett did some good things, but also struggled at times, completing 9-of-16 for 92 yards.

"The two freshmen don't play like freshmen," offensive coordinator Ed Zaunbrecher said of Leak and Midgett. "But they've still got a long way to go. All the quarterbacks do." The offense also had some success on the ground, with redshirt tailback DeShawn Wynn rushing for 61 yards on six carries. His highlight was a 48-yard run on his third carry during the regular phase of the scrimmage. Redshirt freshman Jimtavis Walker also had an excellent night, rushing for 55 yards on five carries, including a 24-yard TD run in the regular phase.

Ciatrick Fason also had some nice runs, finishing with 27 yards on four carries, but he also lost two fumbles. The defense seemed lethargic early in the scrimmage, but then started to play with much more intensity. That emotion was fueled by the play of defensive tackle Mo Mitchell and outside linebacker Channing Crowder. Another defensive standout was true freshman Johnny Dingle. Zook said Dingle has improved every day since preseason camp opened last week. Zook also said true freshman defensive end Tranell Morant has an excellent chance of playing this season.

Two of the other players from the 2003 recruiting class definitely will — cornerbacks Dee Webb and Reynaldo Hill. Both performed well in the scrimmage and saw time with the No. 1 defense.

WHO'S HOT: Leak. He was close to perfect most of the night and clearly has a presence about him on the field. He seemed very comfortable making his reads and going through his progressions and was very smart with the football. Although Zook isn't ready to say it, it's pretty clear this talented true freshman is going to play some this season. ... Wynn was excellent running the ball and showed the same explosiveness he did in the spring. He ran with the first team because senior Ran Carthon was a little dinged up.

Dallas Baker had a very good scrimmage and appears to emerging as the Gators' go-to guy.

Cornelius also is playing at a very high level and gives the wide receiver corps a break-away threat with his speed and quickness

True freshman wide receiver Andre Caldwell also had a good night and figures to be in the playing rotation in the fall.

Mitchell, the former offensive guard, is making plays and playing with great emotion at defensive tackle. He's clearly in a position to help out on the defensive line.

Crowder also is becoming a player and has shown great improvement since the first day of practice.

Tavarus Washington, who has been running with the first team at left offensive tackle, had a solid scrimmage and Zook said he has a chance to be a big-time player.

Zook also has been pleased with the play of former left tackle Max Starks at right guard. The Gators will scrimmage again Saturday at 3:30 in The Swamp. WHO'S NOT: Fason. He ran hard, but lost two fumbles.

Safety Daryl Dixon and defensive end Bobby McCray. They were held out of the scrimmage with relatively minor injuries. Dixon has a bruised thigh, while McCray continues to nurse a painful turf toe.

Junior cornerback Deshawn Carter dropped an easy interception in the regular phase of the scrimmage.

The first-team secondary was very vulnerable early in the scrimmage, with the receivers running wide open at times.

QUOTE: "It was sloppy at times, but other than that, it was a pretty good first scrimmage. The defense didn't play well early, but then started to get after it. All the quarterbacks did some good things and all of them had reps with the first team and the third team. We ran about 150 plays and that's what we wanted to do. We'll start whittling things down in the next few days and decide which of the quarterbacks will start getting the most reps. It's still early. We've still got a week-and-a-half left of summer camp." — Zook
