There's been little in the papers and local radio is worthless regarding LSU football right now, does anyone know what the story is about kickers? I saw where Miles said Jackson is expected at football practice, regardless of baseball.

Right now there cannot be much said about the kickers, especially the placekickers. As Saban has noted continually over the last year, the kickers have been fabulous in practice but not so in games. Now the punters they may be able to get a better read on. Both Dalfrey and Fisher as well as Jackson have very strong legs but Fisher and Dalfrey had problems with consistency and hang time in practice. Hopefully they have worked on their drops and can improve so that we wouldn't have to use Jackson for both chores.

What is the possiblity of maybe getting some professional kicking coaches or officials in to work with our kickers? Is that against some type NCAA guideline? I remember LSU using sports psychiatrists in the past..

I remember that, too...The Baseball Team used them in the year 2000, as a matter of fact...Worked wonders...

To be honest, I'm not sure just how many actual kicking experts are out there...I read a story in Sports Illustrated a few months back regarding the handicapped kicking coach who has bounced around a few different NFL clubs.

Seems like according to the article there aren't that many coaches who concentrate on kicking...It may be difficult to find someone, when it boils down to it...

LSU’s kickers have been working extremely hard in practice. They have been going full speed in practice hitting w/the pads on. Expect to see a total 180 this year from LSU’s kicking game. I heard some where that one of the kickers, I cant remember what his name was hit 8-10 from 55 yards out.

As far as punt and kickoff return, expect to see Green at full speed this year. Reports say that his looks very fast! I expect him to have a better year then 2003.

I want one kicker and to stick with one. Either Gaudet or Jackson. It is too hard on the kickers to bounce back and forth. I think Jackson is better but then again I'm not the coach.

Damon Duval did pretty well pulling double duty...He was the Groza Award winner in '01 or '02 or '03, wasn't he?

Back to the original post, Miles said that Peveto spent the first 45 mintues of practice working only with Special teams.

If Jackson is on a 100% football scholarship, then he must attend every spring football practice even if he must miss baseball games . . . if that is what Miles wants.

In the past some coaches have allowed tracksters and baseballers to miss football practice for a game in a minor sport. Other coaches wouldn't even let football players run track or play baseball. Most coaches have been reasonable and work out something with the baseball coach. But the football scholarship gets priority. In fact NCAA rules prohibit athletes on baseball or track scholarships to even participate in football.

If Miles needs Jackson at practice, he must be there. We will see.
