It's been fun reading all the speculation about the new coach, but I can't believe all the love that Spurrier is getting! A few years ago when I was there, Spurrier was enemy #1 (I was one of the fools who rushed the field in 1997), and we were so ticked at his smugness and attitude. Now that he could be a possible candidate, all of a sudden, we love the guy? :dis: I realize that yes, he was a good coach at Florida, but how can someone so viilified by the fans just a few short years ago now be welcomed with open arms just because he'd be wearing purple and gold? I guess Seinfeld was right...we do just cheer for laundry! No matter what, I'll still support the team, obviously. It's just weird to see all the Spurrier fans on this board!
Its a game, everyone hates a cocky winner, but its better than being a cocky loser... he was also "HUMBLED" by his time in the NFL... i dont believe he is going to come to LSU... everyone knows that good coaches go to USC (coaching graveyard) to die.
After the way LSU treated Spurrier in the 91-92 coaching search, (we picked Hallman) we deserved the way he beat us. Into submission. I would welcome the guy with open arms.
This isn't about feelings, who jilted who, or golf, this is about a head coaching job at what has become one of the elite coaching jobs in all of college football. Spurrier won a national title, he endured the same kind of expectations that now surround LSU, and he was/is one of the most covetted coaches out there. Love or hate him, he wins. Same with Mike Price. I don't understand the hangup with a feel-good type coach. The business is about winning, period. I'm not saying that you sacrifice everything for a coach, but these are proven winners, who have never been sanctioned, and who get the most out their players. In the end I don't think anyone would care that the guy wears a visor, looks funny when pissed, or failed at a job which Joe Gibbs also didn't light the world on fire with. We need an honest winner, but instead we'll go after someone that gives us comfort. And that is crap!
Spurrier announced yesterday that he is not leaving South Carolina and that he intends to make it his last coaching job. The golf is better over there and the pressure is lower.
Hell a couple of weeks ago I said HELL NO to Spurrier, but that was before Skips long list seemed to fall apart. Today I say HELL YES(can't beleive I'm saying it), LSU is at a huge crossroads and really needs a quality coach to continue what Saban has started. Whats left of Skips list that we can see doesn't have me jumping for joy. Hopefully there is more to Skips list than meets the eye because I think Spurrier is a long long long shot at best.
