As many have said before, we're getting thrown in a situation that's difficult to win, not literally win, but win by proving something about us. College football fans around the nation along with the media (yes, there is the exceptions of Herby and probably a couple of others) that EXPECT nothing short of an absolute blow out. It seems beating the spread on this one wouldn't even be par for these people. So by how many points do you think LSU would have to win by to THOROUGHLY satisfy this crowd? I just want to win. Yea, ND lacks pure talent and speed.... but this is college football, ANYTHING can and will happen and I can't even tally up how many times this year alone "superiorly talented" teams have LOST outright to teams that came to play hard and play smart. How can you take lightly, a team that's getting insulted right and left in the media for "not deserving", a team with a Heisman finalist at QB and a coach with Super Bowl ringS. I'm not saying ND and BQ are what the media says they are (basically Gods) but you have to be pretty damn good to get them to come along for the ride all season long (i know there will be plenty of joking replies to this, but I'm not kidding, really). So my guess is it will take a convincing 14 or more point win to satisfy the expectations. To satisfy my expectations I just want to see the LSU Tigers play full on, mistake free, inspired, out of their minds, LSU Tiger football! If that happens I will be fully satisfied, euphoric, and damn proud.. the score will take care of itself.
To satisfy the masses, a blowout is necessary. That's what USC and Michigan did to the Irises. For LSU to be considered (by media and others) as a threat for the NC next year, we will have to do the same thing to 'em. If it happens, we will come into next season highly ranked, possibly even in the top two or three depending on what happens in other high profile bowl games, and what happens during the off season concerning who's staying and who's not. I'd like to see a blowout myself, just because of my disdain for Notre Dame, which stems from the favoritism they recieve in the national media. This is not a new thing. They have been "annointed" as long as I can remember, and although I'm nearly 40 years old, I can't ever remember them deserving it. I know they haven't been deserving in the last 15-20 years. :geauxtige LSU!
What scares me is that the team will linger over the let down about not going to the Rose Bowl and they will also take ND lightly because of all the media hype. With these factors and everyone saying LSU will blow ND away I am scared that we just might give this one away with a sloppy played football game because the team is not as focused as it should be. Thank goodness LSU is a 2nd half team and can make miracles happen when needed. I just hope the team does not take ND for granted. I hope the team goes into this game looking at ND as another opponent that must be beaten and could be as competitive as any team they have played this year; after all ND has as much if not more to loose than LSU. I was also told that some media people are now saying that ND is going to win because of everyone is saying LSU is going to blow them out and that the LSU fans are disrespecting ND. What the media fails to realize is that Norte Dame is as much hated as USC to LSU fans. All I can say is :geauxtige :geauxtige :geauxtige :geauxtige beat Norte Dame. I do not think it will be a blow out. I say LSU by 10. However I hope I am wrong and LSU does blow them out by 28.
yea, I kind of alluded to that in my original post. Even if we cover it won't be good enough for many in the media. Last I saw it shifted half a point to 8.5... well at least at the sportsbook I saw last night. I wouldn't mind it shifting that way some more... I don't ever bet on my teams though unless they're underdogs and I take them outright... I don't want to ever have the conflicting emotions of a team win but money lost, or a team loss with money won. Even as an underdog outright I get a little nervous b/c of the double emotionally crushing scenario of having my team lose and lose money.. I like to follow odds and trends, betting here and there for fun on games that look good but wouldn't matter to me had I not put money on them.
I have predicted on other threads that the score will be 38-21 LSU. Based on the way the Tigers responded last year to being out of the BCS, I must conclude that CLM knows how to get the team motivated for a big game. For that reason, I don't put any stock in the argument that LSU will consider not going to the Rose Bowl to be a let down. As far as the team being "psyched out" by the fans and media expecting a blowout, I have heard some comments made by CLM, and I don't think the team is overlooking anything. The seniors on this team have a chance to go out in a truly special way, and they know it. Also, you have to believe that the staff and players know how important it is to end on a good note for recruiting and next years rankings. As fans, we may be "psyched out", but the players and coaches don't buy into any of this. The only reason the Ole Miss game was so sloppy is because they were looking ahead to Arkansas. There's nothing to look ahead to this time. They will be ready. If my prediction is wrong, so be it. But my prediction will not affect the play of the team, nor will Lee Corso's prediction. :geauxtige LSU!
I am not concerned with by how much LSU wins; I just would like to see them win and play their game, i.e. Tiger Ball!:thumb: It would be a very interesting match of wits between Charlie Weiss and Pellini; I don't believe the LSU defense would come out flat as they have played disciplined ball all along the season; I hope they come in completely healthy. It would be an exciting matchup, with anticipated screen and misdirection plays from Notre Dame. Good thing the defense saw a bunch of trick plays towards the end of the season with Ole Miss and Arkansas. Offensively I think LSU is coming along with their running game towards the season's end; would love to see them open up the field with passing plays early on to help with their running game. I think the trio of LSU receivers is awesome and tough for anyone to defend. Getting chills already! Geaux Tigers.
Exactly. I think the Ole Miss game was a good lesson and reminder that you never take anyone for granted, ESPECIALLY the underdogs. I am glad the Tigers had that game as a recent experience.
