Hey Tigers. Im an partial-owner of the website GatorTailgating.com and we do articles about tailgating at different venues across the SEC. I was wondering if I could get y'alls input for these questions. I will really help me out being that Ive only been to LSU once, and it was why we started the website (read in the about us on our page).

Where are the best areas of town for motels to stay in the night before/after the game?

What are some attractions in/around Baton Rouge (other than New Orleans) that a visitor shouldn't miss?

Where should a visitor go to eat before leaving Baton Rouge?

Where is the best area to park close to the stadium yet still have room to tailgate?

How much should we expect to pay for a parking spot near the stadium?

Are there any special rules we should know about tailgating on or off campus, open-container policies we should be forewarned about, or anything of the sort?

Any gameday traditions we should not miss while in Death Valley? (i.e. we have the Gator Walk, Auburn has Toomer's corner, etc.)

Is there anything else you would advise fans of before heading to Baton Rouge to tailgate?

It's probably easiest to cut and paste the ?s into a new forum past and then bold your answeres, but whatever way works best for you is great.

Thanks in advance for the help. PS- Y'all might enjoy this article about Trendon Holliday vs. Jeff Demps too! Head to Head: Gators RB Jeff Demps vs LSU RB Trindon Holliday | Gator Tailgating

    GAME DAY INFO:
If you come four or five hours early you will find plenty of free parking. The north side LSU lots are small and fill up quickly. Avoid parking in the high-crime neighborhood to the north of campus, the better parking is on the south side anyway. If you run late, the big free grass lots off the river road aren't that far from the stadium.

We eat good in Baton Rouge. There is some damn good food in this town, especially seafood. Mike Andersons, Phil's Oyster Bar, Drusilla Seafood, and Ralph & Kacoos are the most popular. All will be crowded on game weekends but you can get in with a reasonable wait, they are used to it.

TJ Ribs is especially good at moving a crowd through on game day and serves fine BBQ. Juban's is kind of upscale but has the finest Creole cuisine in town. Boutin's for Cajun cuisine and music. Good off-campus Bar & Grills abound. The Chimes, Walk-on's, The Pastime, Chelsea's, Georges, Ivars, Sammy's, Fred's, and Brewbachers are all great LSU bars with good food.

And don't forget 24-hour breakfast at Louie's Cafe, a classic just-off-campus diner with the best omelettes and burgers in town.

Live music close to campus can be found at the Varsity Theatre and The Caterie. don't forget the two riverboat casino's downtown for a little fun and entertainment.

The Lod Cook Hotel and Conference Center is on campus. No other hotels are within walking distance, but a new one is being built a half mile south of Tiger Stadium. The hotel clusters near campus are the downtown hotels and casinos, the I-10/Acadian exit, the I-10/College exit, and the I-10/Hwy 415 exit across the river in Port Allen.

Attractions around town include the Old State Capitol (Antebellum), the New State capitol (skyscaper views), the USS Kidd warship on the river, the riverboat casinos, the LSU Rural Life Museum, The river road plantation homes, The Louisiana State Museum in Spanishtown, . . . and New Orleans is only an hour away.

Game-Day traditions: Go see Mike the Tiger's new habitat, our live Bengal Tiger Mascot. There is usually a Jambalaya stand nearby, try it! The LSU Tiger Band marches down the hill to Tiger Stadium an hour before the kickoff and it is something to see and hear. It will be crowded, but the crowd response is part of the show.

Tailgaiting is legendary around campus before the game. Nobody, I mean nobody, cooks more or better food than LSU tailgaters.

You can park for free if you get out there early...8-9am for a 7pm game.
large parking lot in front of the nadatorium near the track field.
get in the game at least 15 minutes before kickoff to see and hear the Golden Band from Tigerland....also, the golden girls. :)

I think you need to update this list though. Phil's has been closed for awhile. Does anyone still go to ralph and kacoo's?

I replaced Phil's with Parrain's, which ain't the same ambience, but its close to LSU and the interstate.

They sure as hell do, especially on game days because they really know how to move a crowd through quickly and can handle large parties.

Tourist love Acme Oyster House which is a block away from Parrians.

Kacoo's used to be my favorite seafood restaurant many years ago but when new owners came in I was really disappointed. Now it is just OK.

I would recommend these restaurants which are within walking distance of campus:

The Chimes – Highland road at the North gates of LSU. This is my favorite restaurant in BR. It’s about 30 yards from LSU campus. They serve Cajun food, seafood as well as sandwiches and burgers. They have a ton of beers bottled and on tap. I would get there as soon as the open because they fill up fast. The Chimes Restaurant

Serrano’s – Right next to the Chimes. This is a good Mexican place close to campus. They have great margaritas and a really good game day environment. They block off the parking lot and have a big party with a band for each game. Serranos Salsa Company

    • Walk-On’s – This is a newer version of the Chimes but located on the South Side of campus. Food is not as good as the Chimes but still pretty good. They have a big outdoor deck and a bunch of flat screen TVs to watch games. Walk-On's

Off campus these restaurants are good:

Sammy’s – South of campus on Highland road. A local favorite. info-18248963...9hqUk.3QNmRGoL in Houston, TX on Yahoo! Local

Galatoire’s - Famous New Orleans restaurant that opened a second location in Baton Rouge after Katrina. Go here if you want higher end dinning. It's a bit a a drive from campus though. Galatoire's Bistro Baton Rouge
