I tell you what, if that defender turns to play the ball, we might all be talking about losing to Auburn instead of Byrd making a "money catch". In the post-game interview, Flynn said of the throw: "I just threw to the pilon--where if we couldn't get it, no body could..." No doubt that's what Flynn WANTED to do, but that ball WAS certainly in a place where the defender DEFINATELY could have picked it off. In the immortal words of Lou Brown in the movie Major Leauge: "Nice play Willie....Don't ever F******* do it again..."
Here is my take on going for it. He new that Byrd was being covered man to man most of the night. We also had plenty of time left on the clock to try for one last shot at the endzone. If the ball is incomplete there would have been 4 seconds on the clock to kick the field goal. The clock kept running because the refs had to signal TD. This took the other 3 seconds. I think it was a safe call, figuring Awburn is great at blocking field goals.

IF Perilloux doesn't fumble right in the hands of an AU player, IF Lafell doesn't tip the ball right into the hands of an AU player, IF Dorsey doesn't get cheap shotted out of the game, I agree with you, it would have been a different game. I understand what you are saying, and as you know, alot of times football games are decided by a couple of plyas. This year we made the play when it counted, no IFS, ands or buts about it !
IF Davis was five yards closer to the goal line last year, we win the game vs. AU and COULD have played for the NC. No guts, no glory. And how glorious was it?!
 Gottcha! :thumb: Didn't mean to sound like I was being negative in light of a phenominal catch in a high-pressure situation.
