That team came in with as much or more talent than this team currently has and lost three games. There was no fire saban post after that game. This team is full of talent, but really has no proven players except on the o line and d line. The linebackers are not very experinced, and we have all new defensive backs except Landry. The qb is a soph. which was proven at the end of the first half. I think we just need to look at the postives and relize this is still a relativly young talented tigers team which will only get better give the staff time. Hopefully we will have a great season and continue to get better. :geauxtige
I agree with you. People keep saying how talented this team is, but that's not completely true. This team has POTENTIAL. Lots and lots of potential. They had potential last year as well and it wasn't fully developed. Let's not forget that even Saban made mistakes & lost games. Only one year, 03, did Saban lose less than 3 games in a season.
There is one major difference between the Fla. loss back then and the Tenn. loss last night -- in the Tenn. loss, WE WERE AHEAD 21-0 before a major collapse.
14 of those points were gimmes. A 19 yard run, and a 1 yd. interception return. Not exactly as dominant as it would be appear by that point total.
I don't buy the talent excuse. Most coaches would kill for the roster at LSU. Jessie Daniels is a second year starter, and Prude started games in '03 prior to Travis Daniels being moved to cornerback when Laron Landry was ready to play safety. Hollis and Highsmith both started games last year, and a number of guys playing at least lettered last year. This is not just that we lost the game, but how bad the team looked while losing (also while winning at ASU). The things that frustrate me the most have nothing to do with hurricanes or conditioning, but coaching related issues. If it is true that a team improves the most from game 1 to game 2, we are in a world of hurt because I didn't see much improvement.
You say the talent is there, but what about in 02 many coaches would kill for that talent. Micheal Clayton, Devery Henderson, Toefield, Davis, Green, Bradie James, and the list could go on that team was loaded, but didnot relize their talent until the next year. I am not saying that we will win the natl champ next year all i am saying is give it time. Yea the d has sucked and the offensive has left something to be desired, but i believe we will finish strong and be a very solid team.
"Time" as you so aptly put it is something teams don't have in this day and age. You're thinking back to CHolly Mac era and Bear Bryant era. They had time then, they don't have that luxury anymore. they may have to suffer through it, but that doesn't mean the urgency isn't there. College football was big time then and it's even more $$ now.
