Anybody know why this game won't be played on Thanksgiving night this year? I know, it's the battle for Mississippi so most don't give a **** anyway, but at least it was a game to watch after drinkin and eatin all day. Bulldogs 35 Rebels 31
Its being played on Thanksgiving I believe, just not televised. Edit* Its being played on Saturday...sorry I don't pay attention to those two pathetic schools.
Article from The Sun By DON HAMMACK Ole Miss coach David Cutcliffe couldn't hide his disappointment last week with how the Rebels played against Arkansas. Things were better Monday recapping their loss to LSU at Baton Rouge, but the Rebels still fell short 27-24. "I talked last week about playing with more intensity and competing, and I thought we competed hard. We just didn't compete well enough," he said. "We didn't accomplish the ultimate goal: winning the football game." Ole Miss (3-7, 2-5 Southeastern Conference) started Ethan Flatt at quarterback, but he yielded to Robert Lane who took more snaps. Cutcliffe thought they needed a more mobile quarterback against the fast, aggressive LSU defense. Lane was still sacked three times and the Rebels offense sputtered after halftime. They were unable to add to a 24-17 lead after Trumaine McBride's third-quarter 48-yard interception return. They had a training room full of banged-up players Sunday, with a list Cutcliffe said was too long to bother reading. It's obvious, though, that the season-long battle with injuries has taken its toll, witnessed offensive lineman Bobby Harris (knee, ankle) and defensive back Kelvin Robinson (knee, shoulder) who now sport injuries to different body parts. Cutcliffe said his team will have a Thanksgiving meal together Wednesday night. They'll practice Thursday morning and have the afternoon and evening off so players who live close enough can go home before returning Friday. The LSU defeat means the Rebels are riding a four-game losing streak heading into the Egg Bowl against archrival Mississippi State. They will be trying to avoid their worst record since 1980, when they went 3-8. A rivalry game last weekend turned ugly, something Cutcliffe said he doesn't expect to happen. He'll mention what happened in the South Carolina-Clemson game and let them know his expectations. "When you're competing at this level and in this league and you're as emotional as you can be, you're right on the edge. It's a fight, but it's controlled," he said. "I just think those are habits that are developed and I don't expect our team to be any different than they've been all year long. "I expect them to compete, but I want them to compete with class." -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Game plan What: 101st Egg Bowl. Who: Mississippi State (3-7, 2-5) vs. Ole Miss (3-7, 2-5). Where: Vaught-Hemingway Stadium, Oxford. When: Saturday, 1 p.m. TV: None.
if i remember correctly from last year, its because ESPN dropped it. :hihi: :hihi: :hihi: :hihi: i enjoyed it as well, then again i watch slippery rock and the citadel when on. the more games on the better I say.
I used to like watching it on Thanksgiving day too, thats too bad for the schools. That was a high profile slot.
they both had to chip in for a trophy and all Moo U had was chickens to offer as barter while the Ole Mythers only had the hot water they often find themselves in on account of their many delusions. therefore they combined resources and discussed it over lunch. hence, the egg bowl. that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
The Egg Trophy came about because back around the 20's ole miss beat msu at msu and tried to tear down the goal posts. The msu fans didn't care too much for it and whipped the hell out of the reb fans in a big brawl after the game. Afterword, they decided they needed something to give the winning team to take home, thus the poorly designed football trophy, or the "Golden Egg".
