Dont know if anyone has really looked at it this way, but our schedule is broken down perfect. a lot has been said about how we have all our tough games at home... but look further. north texas... essentially a week off, dont know miles' policy on practicing for games a week ahead, but on talent alone we should push past north texas, giving us plenty of time to look ahead to asu... projected to be a top 15 team, at home and our first test. should be a great game, but with the extra time to prepare during the north texas week, shouldnt have a big problem with them. WEEK OFF before getting perhaps our toughest test of the year at home versus Tennessee: coming TO tiger stadium, 7 days after playing in the swamp. even if they win that game, remember what happened last time we played them right after they beat florida? we won the seccg this is followed by two virtual weeks off at miss st and at vandy then... Florida comes to town after those two games vs weak opponents, and may be looking forward to the great huge cocktail weenie roast against georgia. Auburn then is here, which is our toughest spot to play a tough conference game, but I think it's safe to say the jury's out on auburn this year. lost their whole backfield and their best db, not to mention some key roll players. we get a week off after auburn to lick our wounds and heal some guys down the stretch, not to mention we get app state at home for homecoming. then, we're @bama, @ole miss, arkansas at home... im thinking bama could be a test but ole miss and arkansas lost a good bit over the past couple years and I Just dont see them competing this year... Im sure we've all looked at the schedule, but I wonder how far into these things the "experts" look. usc has az st on the road right after a trip to the pac ten's best home field- oregon... just some things to look at... opinions? :geauxtige
Still waiting for a reason why people are hyped on Tennessee. A can'o'whupass on a$m does not make up for looking very ugly down the stretch against ND, Alabama, UK, and Vandy.
I doubt the LSU offense will practice anything specific for N. Texas the week of that game, so part of what you say may be true. As for the defense I doubt seriously he would prepare for ASU before playing NTSU. It's much more likely they put in stuff for ASU during the preceding weeks.
I hate to say it, but dont look past North Texas. I know nothing about them, except that any team hungry enough to win can beat an unmotivated team, no matter how talented they are. I'm definately part of the one game at a time camp. No gimmies in this game. In Saban's first season we lost to UAB in Baton Rouge. You gotta earn it before you can look down the schedule. Until this LSU team takes the field, they havent earned squat.
absolutely, clearly speculation, north texas isnt as much of a pushover as you'd think the perrenial new orleans bowl competitor would be. Im pretty sure their runningback was a freshman last year and lead the league in rushing... say what you will about their league... they have confidence and I bet their close proximity to LSU gives them some knowledge of the players as they probably recruited them at one time.
If you want to know the relative strength of UNT against LSU, look at ULL.. ULL took UNT to the wire last year... I know none of you are ever worried about ULL, so if they are just a small step below UNT, then maybe the spread cant be dropped to 4 touchdowns instead of 5...
That Miami team was really good, going 8-2. The MAC is head-and-shoulders over the Sun Belt in football. UNT will give us a better game than SMU would, but by no stretch of the imagination are they going to hang with LSU opening night. It'll be interesting to see how Alabama handles Middle Tennessee. Both teams are picked in about the same relative positions to LSU and UNT in their leagues. That game may the upset and if that happens... is www.firemikeshula.com taken?
two things since when is an off week definately a good thing? do you really think florida is going to look past us? no way!
