I kept hearing about some comments Chris Fowler made on the Dan Patrick radio show... So I find out they replayed it on the Paul Finebaum show (it's a radio show in Alabama, for those who aren't familiar with it) and I decided to listen...

Well forget what Chris Fowler said, y'all gotta get a load of these Bammer fans that called into the show! I recorded a short segment that has 3 callers. The first sounds like a regular guy and goes on a rip about how ESPN has it in for the south and how LSU is going to drop 60 on ND and run Weis out of town :thumb:.

    but then...

"Mildred" calls... Sounds like a 90 year old senile woman. She goes on about "is dat mexican fellar gonna come coach Bama?" and somehow gets on a tangent about her dog "pooping" around the house.

Next some old guy who sounds like he's on a respirator comes on and says about 4 words a minute. Forgive me for finding humor in this but one after the other and I was in stitches... I really couldn't believe it... it was like the perfect storm of Alabama stereotypes came together and decided to talk about Tide football. That's all I recorded... I cut it off just before another guy came on claiming that Tubberville was controlling ESPN and the rest of the media to make Bama look bad...

Unreal... I couldn't have made any of this up even if I had wanted to!

"Mildred in Tuscaloosa" is a made up character for the Paul Finebaum show. I just recently moved back to BR from the B'ham area and listened to his show at the office and on the way home everyday. "Mildred" became a regular caller to spice up the show. It is a guy making his voice sound like an old lady. Look at Finebaum's web site and he has an archive section of just "Mildred" calls.

The one you really need to listen for is "Phylis from Mulga". She is nothing but a true red neck from Bammer.

Paul's show is very entertaining. That is what it is intended to be. Listen long enough and you will hear "Shane from Centerpoint".

If you want pure sports talk in B'ham then listen to Jox 690 am. You can listen to their show on the internet.

i know very little about finebaum and his show but the considering that i've heard of phyllis from mulga like 3 times before, i have to go check her calls.
i think someone sent me one a few years ago when fran chi blowme was the coach.

I believe that first caller meant to say a "bias towards anything non-southern". He kept saying bias towards the south.

aww man.... you totally killed it for me... I was happy not knowing that was a joke... Ya know, actually, for awhile I did think "is this just a regular joke I don't know about" but the damn voice sounded so real I bought it hook, line, and sinker!
