Just a quick observation on my part as I wake up with the 1 year old this morning and turn on ESPN to see who won the USC game last night......the lovefest between USC and ESPN is stronger than ever.

I don't like to think of myself as a hater, and I could honestly care less about Pete Carroll and USC and their quest for three AP national Titles..........

HOWEVER, you do not see even pro teams getting the coverage and attention that USC gets from ESPN. They are at all of their practices, and have their own freaking reporter assigned to them, Shelley Smith in ALL of her glory. I would not be surprised if she eats dinner with Carroll and the coaches one day a week, and then goes to a fraternity party with Leinhart and Bush on other days. I also bet she will cry big tears when they lose this year, because after last night against a mid major non BCS school they should have lost.

Thank you ESPN for showing biased reporting at its best! :thumb:  :dis:

and add this great coach about off not up to speed the SEC is compared to the PAC 10...........

The defense cannot be judged in the vacuum of numbers, Carroll said. The non-conference schedule and the demands of facing the PAC 10's sophisticated offenses must be considered.

"Any defense in our conference that is holding it together is doing a good job," Carroll said before facing Fresno State. "The offenses in this league are enormous."

Carroll bristled at the suggestion from some national commentators that PAC 10 offenses are productive because conference defenses are terrible. Carroll said PAC 10 offenses would be successful in the defensive-oriented SEC.

"They don't play the way we do out here," Carroll said.

Winning 33 straight games will get you a lovefest.

With that said, I think Texas is the better overall team and has a real shot at ending this winning streak.

The media lovefest with USC goes all the way back to when the "media" was just a "medium."

I'm talking about back in the days of the Silent Movies . . . back in the 1920s when radio was in its infancy, the technology to make talking movies did not exist, and TV did not exist. Back in the 1920s when Hollywood was making Silent Movies, there existed an affinity between USC and members of the Hollywood film-making community.

This media lovefest with USC is very old, indeed.

OK SCREW IT. I SAID I WANTED LSU TO PLAY PENN STATE.

BUT SCREW THAT. I WANT USC IN A BOWL GAME.

EVEN IF LSU LOSES I JUST WANT VAUGHN WILLIAMS OR WROTEN TO DESTROY LEINART.

I think most good teams would have a great shot at USC this year. I also felt we'd have beaten them in '03.

I was up with a cranky 8-month-old @ 12:30 watching part of that "strong" performance by USC. BS.

the thing about Pete Carroll and his quote that pisses me off is that he knows he will likely never have to face an SEC team of great caliber unless he schedules them...ala Arkansas (who is nowhere near good, much less great).

he can spout off all he wants, but knows all the good SEC teams like LSU, Auburn, Georgia, and Florida will beat up on each other, likely lose at least one game in the season, then have to win a conference championship game. Leagues like the Big 10 and PAC 10 get off easy because they do not have the conference championship games, so they get the luxury in some years of getting to avoid good teams they might otherwise see in the finals....and thus the uneven playing field in college football today.

Until there is a true playoff, or all leagues have the same set up, i.e. conference championship games, we will never see an SEC team get the shot to shut Pete Carroll up...we have to let a Big 12 team like Texas do it.

So, the BCS is crap...this we already know. It can be better without the automatic bids (sorry Big East, but TCU deserves a BCS bid more then USF or West Virginia), but the BCS commisioner happens to be the Big East chairman....never will happen. The top 8 BCS teams by ranking should play in a playoff, adding an extra 2 weeks to the season. No one could complain then as everyone in the top 8 got a shot to earn it on the field.

    Rant over...Have a great day.

And wasn't it just a few weeks ago that there was a lenghty article questioning if the SEC defenses were really that strong, or if SEC offenses were just inept? The seeds that are sown...

I watched the game last night, and I didn't see a number 1 team, I saw an entertaining game. I think I also saw a team which will be blown up when someone hits them in the mouth. I keep thinking of Leinart's comments about people trying to hit him because of all of his accomplishments. usc is not a physical team, I so hope they play LSU or utexas, teams that will make usc cower. usc will have to look for flags because carroll is right about one thing:

Agree. Texas' defense is impressive, fast. Their DBs are good, maybe 1st round good.
