College football in Louisiana is good because the high school programs are great. If you look at the states that are ranked ahead of us in the high school category you'll notice one thing. They all have huge populations compared to LA.

If you look at the number of Division-1 scholarships and NFL players proportionate to population, you'll find Louisiana and Mississippi near the top almost every year. Fortunately LSU doesn't have much in-state competition for recruits. We just need to keep the top players from leaving.

    Warrick Dunn / FSU
Marshall Faulk / San Diego State
    Peyton Manning / Tennessee
    Eli Manning / Ole Miss
    John David Booty / USC
    Travis Minor / FSU
    Kordell Stewart / Colorado
    Reggie Wayne / Miami
    Ike Hilliard / Florida

I guess I was a little shocked we were rated above Alabama in college football, with Bama having 75 national titles and all.

I thought our overall rating could have been higher, because Lord knows how crazy we are for football. That said, I think we did damn good because when you look at it per capita, we are clearly football mad. All of those states ranked ahead of us have more people, some a helluva lot more people. Not bad for us. :thumb:
