LSU football = #9 in the nation, arguably the most talented team in the land
LSU basketball = top 5 preseason
    LSU women's basketball = top 10 preseason
LSU baseball = will hopefully get back on track this year with new head coach
LSU women's softball = should be top 10 preseason (?)
LSU track and field = dominate program overall
LSU volleyball = near top 10 ranking
LSU gymnastics = women finished in top 10
    LSU soccer = ?
    LSU tennis = ?
    LSU golf = ?
    LSU swimming/diving = ?

An extremely deep program overall. I don't think we really stink at any of the sports listed. At worst we are decent to average in our weakest sports. Although I am sure there are those here on TF that can shed light on the less visible sports.

Not many programs in the country are in the current state that LSU finds itself in. I can only think of Texas being anywhere close to where we are.

I'd say UF, coming off of a NC in basketball, a NC runner up 2 years ago in baseball, and a #3 ranking in FB is right there if not better at the only sports that matter.

    True.

I think that might be the only 3 programs that are strong in all 3 major sports.

Pretty nice when you have something to get really excited about all 12 months of the year.

Texas probably has the best overall athletics in the country, with Florida a close second. LSU is up there though.

I'm pretty sure our swimming & diving teams are pathetic though.

I would put Texas first, then LSU, then Florida. Texas' basketball team has been more steady and for a longer period of time. LSU and Florida has been on the rise in the past 5-6 years.

I could care less what those rankings say. Let the Stanford fans get excited about their #1 Ranked womens cross country team  . And Cal's #2 Water polo team. Those are the type of schools that realize that they dont' have a chance in the major sports so they focus on the other smaller sports. If they did one for the ones that mattered LSU would be in the top 5 no doubt. The poll loses credibility when even UCSB is ranked on there or santa clara. If LSU is one of the most talented and athletic schools in the major sports, there's no doubt in my mind that we would dominate those other schools in the other sports if we maybe put some effort into it financially and such. Oh well thats' enough rambling about that, time for some good ole miss bashing!
