The "Heisman Trophy of college marching bands." Looks like the SEC is dominating as of lately- 5 of last 7. :hihi: http://www.umass.edu/band/about/sudler.html
there is a reason for the recent domination. 1. There are no repeat champions 2. When the award came to be back in 82, Tennesse was still bitter about losing the only real college marching band competition to LSU. So the SEC band directors got together and agreed " no one was going to tell them that their band was not the best." So... no SEC band was submitted for the award till the late 90's when Frank Wickes was the only director left from the "old gaurd." Thus the directors started submitting their programs for the award. SEC schools would have been up there a lot sooner if had not been for the old band directors.
Occasional reality for one. :hihi: Winning over this Trojan for two. :hihi: I'll give ya'll some Southern style points though.
My problem with this is that there are no repeat winners. Now we've got Bama winning the award. Now, I saw them last year in TS, and they aren't quite worth the million they're rumored to cost. The performance was laughable at best, what with their dancers CHANGING CLOTHES ON THE FIELD and all. Twice they had major screwups in the performance. The best marching band I've ever seen was NDs at the half of the Sugar Bowl last year. I'm sorry, but that volcano was awesome.
