The WR BATTLE

    cajdav1 Soldiers are real hero's

Everyone of us is usually guilty every year of fawning over our new recruits and forgetting about the guys we brought in before them, even if they were in the class the year before. In 2003 we brought in the best WR class in the country, along with USC supposedly, again. We then brought in the best WR class in the country in 2004, along with USC, supposedly, again. In LSU annals we've alwys pretty much had that one recruit every year that everybody couldn't wait to see, the one I remember the most was Mike Miley. I'll never forget the roar during his soph. season when he went back to receive a punt and everyone realized he was not going to be redshirted.

Anyway, let's refresh ourselves a little bit about these guys in the 2003 class. Hill, Bowe and Davis were all late commits who were maybe the main factor that entire class got pushed to the top of the rankings, along with USC, supposedly, again.

All 3 are big bodied new wave protypical WR's than can run, catch, move, block and power their way around the field. Doucet, Carter and Hawkins are going to have to really compete and work hard just to see the field IMO as these other guys are very gifted and have a year's experience under their belt. From reading up on them they are also very competitive and all 3 have been working tremendously hard in the weight room getting stronger. Davis is said to have put on a lot of weight and is now over 200 pounds. Bowe everyone says, was a monstah in practices in the spring. Hill is back to 95% by his own admission and is rounding back into the form that drew unfettered praise from Saban last year.

I cannot wait to see how all of this shakes out. I can guarantee you that LSU has never been in this position before. In years pass we always had nervous anticipation about maybe one really good player at a position breaking out, maybe 2 at the RB position. We have 6 WR's that could all possibly be tremendous, that is unheard of in LSU football history. We could have a situation where we don't even have a leading receiver, just a leading group. I am so damn excited about these guys it's incredible!!!!!!!!!!!! And I wll offer no predictions on who will be the best or get the most playing time as I want them all do to great. :geaux:

Excellent post cajdav. I can't wait to see how Bowe improves from last season to this one. He is a monster in terms of size and strength. I am desparately hoping the talk of Amp Hill being 95% is true, and that he has a chance to get on the field and make his impact, as well. Just like the QBs, the freshmen WRs will have to earn a spot on the field. Since they were here during the summer workouts, they will have improved their chances.

I love our depth at WR. This should be exciting for years to come.

Saw some video last night on the news of Amp at practice and he was running routes OK. He's not wearing a red jersey and is cleared for contact.

    This is a good sign...

Right on. I am always happy to see players return to the field. Those nagging injuries are so incredibly frustrating. Getting on the field and taking some contact will restore some confidence and feel. :geaux:

I really want to see this kid do well. He had such high expectations...lets hope this injury is not gonna keep him from living up to his hype. We all know he was making a whole lot of noise when he arrived in Baton Rouge.

Skyler Green will be the mentor for the fleet of the most talent class of receivers that LSU EVER has. I'm very glad that Hill is back and he sounds maturity beyond his age.

<<< There is, however, serious competition. Besides junior Skyler Green, Dwayne Bowe and Craig Davis, who were in the same recruiting class as Hill, both played enough to letter last season. That's an indication Hill may have contributed had he been healthy. And this year's freshman class boasts highly touted receivers Early Doucet, Xavier Carter and Lavelle Hawkins.

"The competition doesn't worry me," Hill said. "It makes you better. The more good receivers you have, the tougher it is for opponents to cover you. >>>

not to stir the pot or play favorites...but regardless what happens, minus injury, Early Doucet will play EARLY and OFTEN.

    have a nice day.
