1. Well our offense will improve i have no doubt.

But if our defense gets any better then maybe we change our schedule and start playing some NFL teams.

I think Virginia Tech holds their own in the first half but i am hoping to see us wear them down with our depth in the second half.

Also i hope we can stay away from alot of holding calls. They are drive killers .

It just seems like our linemen get called for things that other teams do and dont get called for. Would like to see good oline play and move some holes against a good Va Tech dline.

If our oline can gell i think every other piece is there to really dominate teams.
  2. Linemen hold when they're gettin their azz beat. We knew going in that our Oline was a concern but I bet the get a lot of work and attn in the upcoming days (With game film as well) and we'll see better results......not the finished product we want but they'll learn from the first game.

I won't name names but I saw one of our Olineman standing up, looking puzzled, and NOT EVEN BLOCKING anyone on SEVERAL plays.....it'll be addressed, corrected, or changes made.
  3. Name names, call 'em out! Otherwise they won't know (unless the coaches do).:yelwink2:
  4. I thought it was terrible both ways.......we got away with an interference that ended up being an interception in their endzone. Chevis made obvious contact before Steltz caught the ball.
  5. Key words highlighted for effect...I wanted one of their left O-linemen to transfer to our D-line...he had great tackling form.:dis:
    1 person likes this.
  6. VT QB Sean Glennon threw 11 TD's and 11 INT's last year, he will have a hard time throwing against LSU. There only chance is to get there RB Branden Ore working early, if they cant, it'll be curtains for the Hookies. In "DeafValley" Number #1 teams have folded like lawn chairs....side note; Glennon was sacked 28 times last year + no mobility = Dorsey and Jackson Samich~
  7. Refs can throw a flag for holding on dam near any play. Most people are watching the ball/ball carrier and don't see it. I'm always impressed with the ones seeing that part of the game.

Just like basketball, the good coaches often don't know who hit the shot cause they were watching was was happening away from the ball.
  8. Well, they were getting their maroon asses handed to them. The referees have some mercy, for heavens' sake. Sometimes a lineman is just getting beaten badly and he holds flagrantly for the rest of the game. The ref's can't call it on every play.

I relish these moments. You know that you are dominating the opponent when the refs start giving them a break.
  9. Unless it is like last year at AUBARN when the refs virtually gave them the freakin game!:angryfire

  10. Can't remember exactly who said it, but one of the national pundits referred to LSU as: "The 32nd NFL team"

As for the offensive line, you're right. Holding calls and procedural penalties ARE killers!!! We had a 3rd and long on either the first, or 2nd drive of the game where Flynn connected with Early for a decisive first down, but was called back because of a penalty.

The line did look good--but it was for a play or two here and there. For the most part, Carnell Stewart's play left a lot to be desired...

I'm not trying to pick on the guy, after all, he was a defensive lineman making his first ever start on the offensive side of the ball, but frankly, as good as that DE for MSU is (or as good as he looked at times) if Stewart is going to remain our starting LT, he had better realize that there are FAR more superior DE's that he'll have to face as the season goes on. And for starters, you can be those DE's at VT are itching to get after him this week. It'll be a big challenge for Stewart and it'll be interesting to see how he responds.

The good news reguarding the OL play, is that we can (and will) get better. We've seen it happen as recently as last season, where our run blocking was pretty rotten early in the year, but blossomed by season's end. Throw in the fact that we can automatically get better rather quickly once Will Arnold is fully healthy and able to assume his spot at LG, moving Big Herm back to RG. That would give us pretty much 4 of last season's starting 5 linemen, back on the first team. Until then, it is still a positive thing that Lyle Hitt will have been given a good portion of reps and experience....Those things can only help him develope down the road.
