1. This is just part of the article... the rest can be found here: http://www.lsureveille.com/vnews/display.v/ART/2005/03/01/4224661a136ae
  2. I can agree. I hated the logo from the start. If I had the choice of having our logo being just letters LSU Tigers, or the current logo, I would take the afore mentioned.

I couldn't believe it when the school chose the current logo. Of course I don't know if I saw all the choices.

I still like the round tiger head on the side of the helmets. Just use that. I hope they never touch the football helmets.
  3. Carface, since you're basically the Picture Guy here, can you post an example of the logo that's being complained about? Just want to make sure I'm thinking of the right one...and if it is, I'll be quick to pile on too.
  4. That would be this one:

I'm indifferent to the new logo, though I prefer this one:

Alot of people like this one, but it's too similar to an old Auburn one, so I hear:

  5. Argh, more than happy to pile on then. I like the lettering, but it looks like the Tiger is about to start a conversation with you.

I sincerely hate that old logo too though. For some reason, I just imagine some 70 year old man, wearing a McClendon-era golf shirt w/ the pointy collars, and this logo on a trucker hat with a straight brim barely perched on top of his balding head. Doesn't exactly instill fear in anyone other than a restaurant w/ a Senior discount.

Why don't they just go ahead and use this?
  7. I've said it before and I'll say it again-the best possible logo is/would be the old picture of a snarling Mike the Tiger stepping out of and over the North End Zone of Tiger Stadium. This is what used to be put on all the tickets, merchandise , etc. and nothing has ever topped it!
For the life of me I can't imagine why anyone ever thought something else was better than that!
  8. The current LSU logo -- errr visual identity - is one I complained about vehemently. First off the AD paid Phoenix Designes $60K to come up with this logo, a firm in New York. LSU has a great design school and there are plenty of people who know something about LSU that could've come up with a great logo. This logo is entirely too busy. That "Carolina Hurricanes" black swirl behind the Tiger is awful. And why is there a need to put the word TIGERS in reverse type when there is a tiger on the LSU - shouldn't that be obvious what the moniker is? I do like the "geaux font" LSU - which no one but LSU has the rights to use. I just think Phoenix could've done a much better job. On the main logo the Tiger's head is disproportional to the body. If the Tiger head is by itself or with the Geaux Font LSU it's not bad. I would've like to seen a more ferocious looking tiger ala the Cincy Bengals old logo. Look at some of the other schools across the country who are also the Tigers and see which logos you like best. I don't mind Missouri's or the eyes that Auburn sometimes uses. Memphis' is ok but not great. I'm afraid we're probably stuck with this one for a while, especially since it's all over all the NC merchandise.
In a related story - Nicholls State's school logo is awful and was changed like a year or so ago. It looks like the old stick figures they used to use for the Olympics. A former student with a firm designed it and everyone hates it and calls it the windsurfer. Now the president did away with the old cartoon Colonel called Tillou, which was a concept of a former president, bu the school's athletic teams will still be called the Colonels. The athletic teams still use the N with the sword through it, which looks good. But the university has announced it has hired a new firm to come up with a new logo and slogan for the school.
  9. Unfortunately I think TSDude is right about LSU not changing it any time, especially with the recent National Championship. They are thinking, "We spent $60,000 on this POS, we've gotten tons of publicity from the football national championship with it - we can't change it now."

However, I could spray fart on a piece of paper and come up with something better looking than this, and charge way less than $60,000. Also, outside of during the actual game on tv - hardly anybody uses this logo in the media it seems. They all know it sucks too. So, this particular logo hasn't gotten as much publicity as it would seem.
  10. I'll bet "Toonces" could put an ass whuppin on this one:
