It will be interesting to see how long past this weekend that LSU will wait to make a decision on their next head coach. NFL head coaches and assistant coaches cannot be contacted for interviews until AFTER the the last regular season game (this Sunday). I suspect the process will carry on into the latter part of next week, with the 6th or 7th being the date a decision is made.
I think you're correct, sometime by the 8th or so. Pro coaches can be contacted by colleges right now, by the way (doubtful, for example, that Notre Dame hired Charlie Weiss without a sitdown). That end of the season rule only applies to other NFL teams (tampering). I wasn't sure how easy it would be for LSU to interview coaches involved in bowl games this week, but if Skip's already seen Petrino, I imagine he can see others just as easily, as well as pro coaches. Pure speculation, sure, but I imagine LSU is working from an initial list of 8-10 candidates. Assuming Petrino's Sunday interview was the first of the process, a Dec 26 to Jan 8 is 14 days total. The basic compensation package is, no doubt, already set with some variables left to be cleared up (like a nice, fat buyout clause) once the candidate is chosen.
I thought that only other NFL teams can not contact assistants untill the end of the season. LSU should be able to contact NFL assistants. Look at ND and Charlie Weis.
Yeah, thanks for the correction. Well, I still think the process takes us into the late part of next week.
10 days from now this should be over. Beyond that we are either waiting on an NFL coach who is still playing or in some difficulty making a decision or finding the right candidate.
