It's no "I'm going to win the Heisman in my frosh year," but, it shocked me to the same level when I read the comments by Gerell Robinson (TB) while talking to Mike Stoops, AZ HC.

He looks to be one of the top, if not the top prospect out of AZ this year. Definitely, in the top 100 in the nation for RB's.

As a fan, how do you look at this? As a HC, what would you think...a problem with attitude in the waiting?

In a recent interview with the Rivals.com reporter for the Arizona site, Robinson was quoted as telling Stoops the AZ team had better win 8 games next season. If not, even though he's an early commitment to AZ, he would likely go elsewhere. He says he just wants to see improvement, and on that, I can't blame him. BUT, players giving prospective HC's ultimatums?!?

As long as the player is in high school and the head coach wants him, there's nothing wrong with him giving ultimatums.

I would be encouraged by this statement, as it shows that he's interested in team goals, and wants to see that Stoops is turning the program around.

At least he's not demanding a certain trim package on his Escalade, or specific landscaping at baby momma's house.

Sounds like he's being honest with his recruiter to me. He wants to play at a school who is going to be winning and he's letting the guy know that. It ain't his fault that someone leaked the comment to the media.

Honest recruits are always better for a school than recruits who tell you what you want to hear and string you along.

I guess I see it differently. If I was Stoops, I would have just walked away and taken this dude off my recruiting list. If he is brazen enough to do this in high school, heaven knows what he will demand when he get's to college. I might have also told him if he ran for over 1000 yards his senior year in HS we would still be interested.

Coaches say things like this to recruits all of the time, especially to recruits they are not really sure about. Why is it so surprising for recruits to say the same thing, especially to schools they are not really sure about?

I agree that it depends on how it went down, but to me it just sounds like the kid wants to play for a winning team, which I don't blame him for.

if the kid were all snotting and demanding it might indicate an attitude problem. but if the kid was just being honest about his expectations from a school, there is nothing wrong with that. if i were a coach, i would like that "want to win" attitude. recruits have expectations, just as coaches do. and who can blame a kid for wanting to play on a winning team.

as others have already said, it all depends on how it went down.

I would tell him to go take a flyin' leap if I was Stoops.

You certainly can't blame a recruit for wanting to play for a winning program, but to give an ultimatum like that to the HC is uncalled for and just plain stupid, if that is what he did. Okay, give him two points for honesty, and deduct 20 points for stupidity.
