Hey Guys I just want come in and say hi. I thank you for allowing me to come in your guys house and discuss some football. Well I just want to get your LSU fans opinions on J.Russ. Yes I am a Raider Fan I know

Ok as you know he is just about to sign with Raiders, In this Draft I felt we had to take a Quarterback, alot of fans were against this pick, however I was kind of unsure, but we took him #1 so what can you do. My Question is how do you think he will do in the NFL?? I know now days its a different breed of athlete, look at guys like Young, Leinart, who have come in right away and have Played. I have heard people saying he will be a Bust, he Sucks, tore up a weak ND defense. I dont like to hear that crap.

However I see a guy with great attributes and tremendous ability. I think he is in his embreyo stages in what he can do. You guys might not be SC fans but if you look at what KIFFIN did there, he recruited guys like Palmer, Leinart, and groomed/ coached them. He took Leinart from being a skinny Kid, if wasnt for injury probaly wouldnt even have started and groomed him to be NFL ready. I think he can do great things wiht J RUSS. Yes we lost to the lions, but our Qb through for over 300 yards and Kiff had the offense moving, we have a new O-line, TE, FB, so we are will be fine. Sorry for the long POST, and apologize if there are spelling/grammar errors, but like I said thanks for allowing me to post this message and hope you can give me more insight on your own J.RUSS :usaflagwa

    thanks

If Al Davis hadn't fiddle-f***ed around with his signing, you would already be aware of how great he is going to be.

    Welcome to Tiger Forum!

I think JR will be a fine pro. He came out of an unsophisticated high school program, and he was the big cheese, with an enormous arm. He needed an attitude adjustment his freshman year to work at learning the playbook, to learn to read defenses, and didn't really get the start until his soph year. He learned a lot at LSU, and he was much better his Jr. year, and he made good progress through that season, IMO.

He will probably not be the most polished guy to jump to the pros, but remember, he was a Jr. coming out. He learned to work, he learned discipline, he learned to throw the ball away sometimes. He will need to learn to read pro defenses, and it will probably take him a couple of years to get really good at it, like most rookies. Leinart was one of the best I've seen coming out of college, and unless I miss my guess, JR will not be that polished that early.

With all that said, JR has tremendous physical talents, and GREAT vision of the field, and he has put the ball in some amazingly tight spots and MADE PLAYS with lots on the line, in big time games. His arm is so strong that he can throw some deep balls and quick sideline passes that will make you stare in awe, like "nobody can do that", or "WOW!".

My personal opinion is he has a lot of upside, and will be a very good pro QB for a long time. Could he be a bust? I suppose, but that's not what I'd put my money on. I think he'll take some patience, development, and some good teammates around him.

His teammates rallied around him, I think he'll be a good leader. No off field issues at  that I was aware of (but I'm in Houston).

I wish him all the best, and we'll be pulling for him!

hi raider fan! glad you stopped by!

don't sweat it. he's gonna be freakin' awesome. he played great football several years for us. whatever tweaks he needs will definitely be worked out by the pro coaches and players. once he settles in, you'll be amazed and thankful. the man has an arm that can't be stopped. have faith in your coaches. i know that's difficult with the record the raiders have had lately, but they are really trying to make something happen. JR is definitely part of the solution to getting the raiders back on the map.

btw...did you catch our Tigers Sat nite? :geauxtige

On a nicer note from sabanfan, you will be impressed with JR. He is the real deal. He does realize everything is a learning experience and will continue to grow inside of whatever program he is in.

Trust me when I say the lsu faithful were thrilled to see him go 1st pick but not so thrilled with the raiders, but your post does give us some hope that your oline can protect him when needed! We just don't want to see our boy injured with such a promising career ahead of him!

Good luck and we will always cheer for our russell!

A lot of the ones bagging on JR are probably Pac10 fans who, for the most part, shut down all rational thought processes when they hear "LSU" or anything associated with it- same with some of our fans on the flip side.

As far as Kiffen getting Leinart "NFL" ready, he's been criticized by his coach and also ESPN's Michael Smith for lacking fundamentals and terrible footwork. That's what I read anyway. I bring it up only to show that it's not as polarized as with an LSU guy, imo.

College quarterbacks all have to be taken to another level to play in the NFL so it's no knock on JR and though his record was 22-4 in two years as our starter, I think his style fits the NFL better than college. Though I prefer a dual-threat, he's a pocket passer type and will be harder to bring down when he's stepping up in the pocket or rolling out.

I apologize in advance if I'm wrong here but I smell serious bandwagon. If you honestly think that Kiffin had anything to do with the recruiting or development of either Carson or Matt, you have much to learn.

Kiffin entered the scene in 2001, same as Leinart. Carson came to USC in 1998 long before Lane. Kiffin was the TE's and WR's coach and didn't become the recruiting coordinator until AFTER Norm Chow left. He never worked with the QB's.

The man who gets the credit you're dishing out is in fact Norm Chow. Carson had an average career at best until his senior year when PC brought Chow in from BYU. They clicked. Once Carson announced his decision to stay for his senior year, Leinart saw his future as a pine rider and began to mull the idea of transferring. It was Coach Chow who encouraged him to stay, be focused, and to believe that he'd be the guy one day. Leinart's first TD toss came against Auburn at their place. Leinart is a disciple of Chow and then Sarkisian after Chow left in 2005. Sarkisian worked with Chow at BYU and has been the QB coach for a few years now working with JDB.

One thing Kiffin and Chow have in common? Neither are ready to be NFL coaches and yet I like them both anyway.
