Toms today disqualified himself for a possible breach in the rules on his part... Speaks wonders (as usual) for his class, and is a great representative for LSU and golf itself. Would have been very easy to slide it under the rug, because no one saw... but he was honest! Bad ending, but great show of sportsmanship.
It's exactly what we've come to expect from someone like David. He's a classy individual and being a true gentleman David held himself to the standards of golf being a "gentlemen's game."
Don't know what happened but I wouldn't have expected anything less from DT or any other competitor. That's what seperates the game of golf and competitors from other sports. Can you envision an offensive linemen telling a zebra that he held on the play and should be penalized?
He was putting on 17 yesterday and just missed a putt for birdie... He quickly approached his ball and tapped it in... He says that his penalty was hitting a ball that was still moving, but the tapes even show that it didn't look like it was, so a great show of class by Toms, when as we all said, he could have easily turned the other cheek. :geauxtige
Thanks for the info, but I think you meant putting for birdie on 17 today vice yesterday. Yesterday he hit his second on 17 near the road, badly hit a fairway wood for his 3rd and made double.
No... he didn't play today... The birdie was yest... but I was mistaken... when they said he had a 'medium length' putt... I just assumed it was a birdie try... Thanks for correcting me
No problem, thanks for clarifying. I heard the TV announcers briefly mention it earlier but they didn't provide any details. I'm sure the Golf Channel will have details this evening.
I don't know, or care if he did... I have gone to SEVERAL live golf events, and they put up with a lot... A LOT... Tiger Woods has at least 5 moments per rd, where I would go Ron Artest if I were him! These guys have to have a HECK of a lot of patience to deal with what they go through.
Unfortunately, a very small number of clowns at tournaments don't display the same class as the players. Like cgisclair I've witnessed numerous instances where these clowns have said things that they wouldn't dare say face to face in the parking lot after the round was over. DT momentarly lost it in the heat of the moment. He made the motion scratching his nose, but the message was clear to me. Pro golfers are often accused of being emotionless robots on the course but believe me the fire burns in their belly.
