Think about this....it could be a made for t.v. movie. If you know about Wingman ( a former Vietnam disabled Veteran that lived and probably died in Happy Jack) and have kept up with his posts from the week before the storm... he stayed put and his last post was around 3:00 am and in one of his last posts (which I can't find) he said it would be his dream for LSU to go 10-2 or something and you reflect on all of the fieldgoals that hit uprights and the blocked punt that dropped right into our guys hands in one of the early games that was then run in for a touchdown (I forget which guy and which game, but I bet y'all know) does it or does it not seem like LSU had some help from the air? Could it be Wingman?
Kinda like the '03 season. I had a friend in BR that was a huge Tiger fan who died early that year. He had LSU Football season tickets for like, forever. His brother, who also has season tickets, and went to all the games with him said that '03 would be the year that LSU finally won a NC, because his brother had waited all his life for one. He said it all season. Even after the FL loss. It was an unwavering belief all season, and damned, if he wasn't right. I think my friend that died was with his brother at the Sugar bowl.
He lived in Happy Jack, I think, I didn't know him, I didn't join this board until after Hurricane Katrina.
If you can find the pre Katrina thread it tells a story. It starts the week before and gives a good sense of what we were used to before the storm. The worst predicted but then a switch of direction and we were safe. Wingman kept posting and people were saying to get out, satelite images were being posted and all. Happy Jack is below St. Bernard parish. I know this thread is moving towards the Hurricane area, but I started it because of the coincidence of his death and our help from "above" with fieldgoals and all. I wish we knew more about Wingman. I'd love to let his family read his old threads.
I agree with you, I first read about him on the Lagniappe Forum, I did not know him as I joined this board after Katrina, but it would be nice to let his family know that we are concerned about him. I also wish I had the opportunity to know him. I am a member of some racing boards and we are like family on those boards. I have met several of the members there in person at different races and we are real close. They have my phone number and I have theirs, after Katrina came through Mississippi, they were on the phone trying to get in touch with me to make sure that we were ok. After a few days they were able to get in touch with me, and then they posted on the racing boards that we were ok so that other people on the boards that knew me could know what was going on with us in Mississippi. There are a lots of members here which I guess is the reason no one knows much about him. I guess you can't get close to people when there are that many members. Still I wish that someone knew something about him or his family. I still hold out hope that he is ok, I guess it is ok to do that.
Yes I remember him and everyone was trying to get him to leave . He said he was staying . I dont know where Happy Jack is but it sounded like it was right in the area that was completely devastated. It is sad that he has not been heard from . Godspeed Wingman wherever you are. Our prayers are with you.
