Possibly one the best races of all time going on. 4 men within 8 seconds of each other for the lead. Lance Armstrong is 4th, 8 seconds behind. Tomorrow early morning will be the broadcast of probably the most important stage that could possibly determine the winner. We shall see if Lance Armstrong is going to have a shot at title number 8.
can someone explain to me how he can be 8 seconds exactly behind 4 straight days? that would be hard to do in a car. also, some woman got ran over and killed by the motorcycle camera thing. that would help the ratings if they could replay that.
everyone in the peleton gets the same time. so if the leaders all finish in the peloton the time stays the same. you have to form a breakout group and run off ahead to pick up time. of course it could backfire and the peloton will reel you in and have more energy and your rival will get his team to lead him away later and punish you. the tour is awesome. so much strategy. teams have pullers and escorts and sprinters and general riders who can do everything and can win that the teams try to carry. please note that when i said escorts above i meant like hookers that increase morale, not guys that draft for teammates. also note that when i said "pullers" i meant "tuggers", or more hookers, again, not guys that are drafting and "pulling" guys through the wind. incidentally, you only have to work 70% as hard when drafting. so the plan is to bring your sprinter to the end and let him loose at the finish. or at least that is the plan on flat stages. in the mountains the climbers leave eveyone behind. the leaders are called GC, general classifiaction riders, they can win, unlike sprinters or other specialists.
i didnt quote your entire post but its obvious im talking to you. why do people quote 3 page posts? anyhow, does everyone in the group have to finish? i still dont see how they remain at 8 seconds exactly.
What's so hard to comprehend? Pretty much all of the leaders had been finisihing in the peleton for the past few days. Sprinters, specialist, etc had been winning the stages. Those are people who were nowhere near the lead, even with their stage wins. So, all the leaders finished in peleton, with same time. Thus top of leaderboard was pretty much same every day. Today sure changed things though!
excuse me bike nerd. i have no clue how it works. your explanation doesnt help. no clue what this means. yippee
Won't be the last time you've been given too much credit. I really thought you were capable of understanding. Oh well, you may catch on some day. As if you care anyway.
From someone who doesn't follow this sport, I see why Tirk doesn't get the way it all works out....it certainly isn't obvious The reason they give a group of riders all the same posted time was probably devised so that it would make the race "safer". You don't have a huge group of 150 plus riders all come sprinting into the finish line to gain a few seconds on a competitor....that would be madness and cause lots of wrecks/injuries. That's my best explanation as to "why" they do it this way. I only watch it because Lance is in it and I agree there is a ton of strategy that goes into it and it can get really exciting at times, like today. My guess is Lance has just lost his chance at an 8th Tour. He lost over a minute to Contador. Anybody else agree? Does he come out and publicly state he will now ride to support his teammate Contador, or does he keep up the fight in preparation for Tuesday's most grueling climb in which he thinks he can take back the lead?
