Fox News is reporting that a player named Al Lucas has died as a result on an injury received received in an Arena FB League game yesterday. He played at Troy State from 1996-1999 and for the NFL Carolina Panthers in 2000/2002.
Always sad to hear these kind of things.

I actually watch AFL games, and they are just as physical as the NFL. Sad to see someone get hurt doing something that they love let alone pass away from it.

Given the description of the hit, I don't think there was anything that could have prevented his injury or its severity.

    Very sad indeed.

Sounds like what happened to a former LSU player, the late Chris Beard. He died as a result of an injury in an indoor football game. I believe he played for the Bayou Beast.

Haven't seen the replay, but according to some local guys on the radio in B'ham this morning, it wasn't very violent. The first thing that popped into my head was that he had hit the boards that surround the field.

    Sad story.

i saw the hit on espn. it looked like he was falling forwards and hit his head on a guy's knee. i saw someone fly over him from the side, i don't know if he hit Lucas though.
it didn't look like a bad hit at all.

I didn't watch it when they showed the hit. I don't want that feeling in my stomach or thought in my mind whenever I see a similar type hit in the future.
    What a shame.
